HGTV is premiering another Detroit based renovation show in July - sounds like the budgets will be a bit higher than Bargain Block
WHAT: Steal This House
WHERE/WHEN: Premieres Saturday, July 9, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV
WHO: Cristy Lee (All Girls Garage on MotorTrend TV and MotorTrend+) will star in HGTV's new home renovation series, Steal This House, where she sees the potential in the most unexpected, inexpensive properties in the greater Detroit area and aims to turn them into astonishing homes. For her clients, Cristy will prove that it's worth the risk to buy a lower-priced house that needs work, create a smart budget and invest in a renovation to create the home of their dreams. Known for her expertise fixing cars, trucks and bikes, Cristy will apply her unique talents to personalize clients' homes with custom amenities, including fabricating metal work for fireplace surrounds and kitchen hoods and repurposing wood to create a one-of-a-kind 3D map.
To start the six-episode season, Cristy will meet a frustrated couple who, after three years of searching, still can't find a property in their price range that fulfills their must-have wish list. Undaunted by the lack of inventory, Cristy will take their sizable half-million dollar budget and help them find and overhaul their long-awaited home.

I think these shows are good for spotlighting the real estate opportunities in Detroit. And good publicity in general.

In last night's episode, the Bargain Block guys reno a duplex to use as an income property to increase their cash flow, which Shea said is "close to the University "

The last episode of season 2 is on HGTV tonight. IMHO, this has been a fantastic show for Detroit, highlighting the ongoing renaissance of certain parts of the city. The spinoff show with realtor Shea is also good.

I enjoy their show. I actually saw them downtown yesterday filming on the street at Woodward at Grand Circus Park (not doing a renovation just probably doing a stock interview or something)

Nice shot of UDM in the opening segment of Season 3, episode 1, in which they renovate a house in the Fitzgerald neighborhood.

The most recent episode also featured a home in the university neighborhood and some shots of campus.
