Some interesting scores in the Big 12 Saturday.
Kansas State held on to first place with a big road win over Baylor. TCU got a big resume win going on the road to be #17 Iowa State. Texas Tech kept pace for second place, going on the road to beat the Sooners. Kansas is still tough at home, despite all the player absences, and they got a 12 point win over OK State. Texas beat WVU at WVU by 22.
I am amazed at how bad West Virginia is.

Seriously, man, I have watched Huggins at Cincy, Kansas State, and WVU, and I have never seen a team of his play this bad for this long. And they were picked third in the conference! On the WVU message boards, there is a small group of noisy fans calling for his firing. Insanity.

Yeah, because, you know, it's been almost a decade since their last Final Four appearance, and Fred Schauss never had a losing season at WVU.

On the subject, there is a larger, noisier group of Kansas fans calling for Bill Self to be fired. They've won 14 conference championships in a row, in the freaking Big 12.

Big news out of the Big 12 as Long Horns leading scorer Kervin Roach has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. He's a senior, too. That's 15 points per game out of the lineup and Texas chases an NCAA bid.

My gut fear is that's something like a sexual assault allegation.

My gut fear is that's something like a sexual assault allegation. Haven't gotten any additional information on the Roach suspension, although the play by play guy on the Texas/OU game said that the suspension was "mandated by the University". Seemed to indicate it wasn't just a coaching decision, unless there was no real significance to that choice of phrasing. At any rate, Roach's absence is already impacting the season, as the Longhorns lost that game to the Sooners by two points.

Interesting tweet from Jeff Goodman on the Big 12 race and KU's quest for a 15th straight title.
"TCU is really the team that will determine the fate of KU's streak. Get both Kansas State and Texas Tech at home. If Kansas wins final 3 (at Okl State, at Okl, Baylor) and TCU beats K-State and at Texas Tech at home, The Streak lives on. Red Raiders also have to play at Iowa State."

TCU is hiring Tony Benford of LSU in the position of assistant coach. Probably a good move for the Horned Frogs, as Benford is the former head coach at North Texas and is known as a very good recruiter.

Texas Tech signed Coach Chris Beard to a six year/$27 million extension. UCLA was probably willing to beat that number, but Beard is in a nice situation at Tech.

Some Big 12 recruiting news this week.
OK State landed UMass Grad Transfer Joseph Laurent, who averaged about ten points per game last season. Good shooting percentage numbers: 54/47/86.
Kansas State landed 6-0 point guard David Sloan from John A. Logan junior college. Shooting numbers aren't great, as he averaged 12 ppg on 48% shooting from the floor and only 53% from the free throw line. But what jumps out is that he averaged just under ten assists per game, along with 5 rebounds. Sounds like a pure point guard who knows how to get the ball to scorers. Could be a very good pick up. He is ranked #24 on that JUCO top 100 list for 2019.
Texas Tech added guard Clarence Nadolney, a three star guard out of Pennsylvania.
TCU added transfer Jadeon Lee, a transfer from Ohio State. He was a top 100 recruit in the class of 2018. Listed at 6-9, 240, appeared in 26 games averaged 6 minutes and three points per game.

Texas Tech added a couple of transfers.
Grad transfer TJ Holyfield from Stephen F. Austin committed to the Red Raiders. Good pick up for Tech; TJ averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game in 2017-18. He sat out last year.
Virginia Tech's Chris Clarke, who sat out last season after being suspended, also committed to the Red Raiders. He is immediately eligible.
Texas Tech loses a lot, but they have added some good pieces and a lot of people are ranking them high for next season.

Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber was picked to be the head coach for the US Under 19 national team at the World Cup in Greece this summer. Just a few years ago, Weber was fired by Illinois despite regular NCAA tourney appearances. He landed at Kansas State after that. He's gone to the NCAA tournament five times in seven years with the Wildcats. This past year he tied for the Big 12 title and in 2018 he made the Elite Eight. Meanwhile, Illinois is on their second coach since Weber, having failed to come close to the level of accomplishment he had there. Nice story for Weber. Cautionary tale for other programs. www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article230391224.html

Oklahoma lands a three star 7 foot center for latest member of the class of 2019 as Rick Izzansa committed today. That's a seven member class for Coach Lon Kruger, who had a lot of spots to fill. Class breakdown is five high school players and two JUCO players.
