Texas Tech beat South Carolina State last night by the score of 101-39. It was that perfect storm of everyone on on Tech being hot at the same time, and nothing going right for poor South Carolina State. Bullies. Seriously, I'm guessing Coach Smith felt good about the way his team played but pretty bad for SC State. He played everyone a lot, but even the walk ons were producing. Tech has played a very soft schedule this season, with Auburn and LSU being the high majors they have played so far. On the other hand, they've been starting at least three freshmen every game with a sophomore and one of their JUCO transfer juniors also seeing time in the starting lineup. They are a very inexperienced team right now. Next up for the Red Raiders is Arkansas Pine Bluff tonight. APB has a poor record, but they did just beat Houston.

The Red Raiders beat APB last night 72-51. Former Titan target Justin Jamison had his best game of the year with eight points and three rebounds in just nine minutes.
Next up for Tech is former HL member Loyola of Chicago.

Been a rough go in the Big 12 for the Red Raiders. They sit at 2-8 currently. They were expected to struggle with a team full of freshmen and sophomores in the stacked Big 12 (probably the best conference in the country) and they have taken some unexpected hits along the way. Justin Gray, one of their most promising freshmen, is out of the year with a knee injury, after being slowed by injuries all year. JUCO transfer Justin Jamison, one of the top big men in the JUCO class of 2014, got into trouble early on and was finally dismissed from the team yesterday. He was counted on to be a starter and major contributor this season. Add in a flu bug that took out a couple of other starters for a game or two, and it's been a rough year. On the plus side, Tech pulled a mighty upset when beating #9 Iowa State in Lubbock for their first conference win, and two games later, beat KSU by 17. They've got a long way to go, but I'm trusting that Coach Smith can get things turned around. collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2015/02/3-takeaways-texas-tech-goes-on-late-run-to-top-shorthanded-kansas-state.html/

Texas Tech closed out the home portion of the year with a 63-62 win over OK State on Senior Day. Tech was down 62-60 when former Titan target Dev Williams knocked down a three pointer. That's at least the third game winner he's hit this year. He's hitting 11 points per game, playing much better at home than on the road.
Tech has some good talent, they are just really young. They'll be better next year.

Texas Tech fought hard, but came up short again, losing 77-74 at #14 Baylor. Former Titan target Dev Williams led the way for Texas Tech with 28 points, including 8-9 from three point range. Hard lessons learned by a young team. scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400585865

Texas Tech's season came to an end yesterday with a loss in the Big 12 tournament. The Red Raiders lost to the Texas Longhorns by score of 65-53. The Longhorns were just too big and too good.
Tech returns most of it's contributors next year, including their leading scorer (JUCO Dev Williams) and the five freshmen who gained valuable experience as the season went on. The have two solid signees for the class of 2015 and at least one more spot to fill in that class.
This was Tubby Smith's second losing season as a head coach. In all his years of coaching he never had a losing season until he got to Lubbock. The program was a mess, and the Big 12 has been the top conference in the country the past two seasons; it's a bad combination. I expect them to get over the .500 mark next season.

Texas Tech addressed a need today with the verbal commitment of JUCO point guard Devon Thomas. Thomas averaged 17 points and 6.6 assists this past season. He's the third member of the class of 2015. After the expulsion of Justin Jamison and the transfer of sophomore forward Alex Foster, Tech has to spots to fill in the spring period. With Thomas on board, they appear to be targeting a power forward/center type in the JUCO ranks for the last opening. There continues to be speculation that Tech could have more attrition, with one or two players being mentioned as possible transfer candidates. http://instagram.com/p/01D85Flj-Z

Texas Tech got a BIG pick up today when Shawntrez Davis announced he had signed with the Red Raiders. Davis is a 6-9 power forward from Georgia who had multiple high major offers. His eligibility isn't fully settled; he reportedly needs a higher test score. Whether he is eligible in 2016-16 or needs to redshirt, Davis is a major signing for Coach Tubby Smith. I can't imagine how hard it must be to recruit talent to Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock is so isolated it's a seven hour drive from Dallas, which is the closest major City.
