Tech knocks Arkansas Little Rock from the unbeaten ranks with a 91-81 victory. UALR had won its first 10, including victories over San Diego State, Tulsa, and DePaul. Tech is now 9-1. This is the type of game a good power five conference team should win, but of course, Tech hasn't been a good power five team for awhile. Things appear to be tracking in the right direction, however. Tech played Utah well, losing a competitive game, and has wins over Minnesota, Mississippi State, and some good to very good mid majors. They're still young in a lot of areas, and they will miss 6-11 center Isaiah Manderson, who recently transferred. The Big 12 will be tough again, but the program is heading in the right direction, I think. sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texastechredraiders/2015/12/22/former-plano-east-standout-zach-smith-records-first-double-double-leads-texas-tech-past-ark-little-rock

Tech goes to 10-1 with a win over Richmond, their ninth victory in a row. Things get tough when the Big 13 season starts on Saturday, but without knowing exactly how good the Red Raiders are, it's a safe bet to say they are better than they have been in a good long while. espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400831698

After a four game losing streak, which included losses at to Kansas, Iowa Stated, Kansas State and Baylor, Tech picked up its second win in Big 12 play, beating TCU 86-79. It was a costly win, however, as Norense Odiase broke a bone in his foot during the first half.
The Red Raiders are 12-5, 2-4.

Does Tech get an at-large tournament bid? They've just beaten Iowa State, Baylor, and Oklahoma back-to-back-to-back, with the Baylor game being on the road. They've got an earlier win over Texas, and wins over a couple of good mid-majors, Big West leader Hawaii and Sunbelt leader Arkansas-Little Rock. They've got just 1 bad loss, at Arkansas. They're 16-9 with an RPI of 27. Before last night's win over Oklahoma Joe Lunardi had them as the 5th team out of the tournament.

The Red Raiders took a ten point win on the road against Oklahoma State Saturday night, 71-61. 17-9 overall, 7-7 in conference. Pretty much everyone picked Texas Tech to finish in last place in the conference this season. Here's a short but great article that provides some insight into Tubby Smith. www.coachwingreen.com/blog/2016/2/17/a-lesson-from-tubby

Tech wasn't expected to win their last two games, road contests against Kansas and WVU on their senior nights, and they lost both games. They kept Kansas close late, losing by nine, but WVU blew them out tonight. Tech needs to win against Kansas State at home this weekend, and then win a game in the Big 12 tournament to feel good about an NCAA tourney bid. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=400831329

After a bad loss to TCU last night in the conference tournament, Texas Tech might be back on the bubble. They're probably in, but you don't want to give the selection committee a reason to keep you out. Tech has the number one strength of schedule in the country and went 19-12, 9-9 in the highest rated conference in the country, but they're also a team that didn't win 20 games, finished 7th in a ten team conference, and lost three of their last four games. It could go either way, especially if some of those bubble teams from Power Five conferences put together wins in their conference tourneys. sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texastechredraiders/2016/03/10/texas-techs-loss-tcu-affect-potential-tournament-outcomes

Coach Tubby Smith added to his hall of fame resume this season, as Texas Tech was awarded an at large bid to the NCAA tournament. In Smith's third year in Lubbock, he has the team ahead of what most considered a reasonable rebuilding schedule. He's been able to do it this year with a team relying heavily on sophomores, and having dealt with a injury to the starting center that cost half the season, as well as the early season transfer of the back up center. All in all, an admirable coaching job by Smith. On paper, the Red Raiders have less talent than any other team in the Big 12. sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texastechredraiders/2016/03/15/texas-techs-ncaa-tournament-forecast-red-raiders-bulldogs-cut-cloth
