Everett Winchester is transferring from WSU, according to ESPN. Seems odd. Winchester was a pretty good player this year as a freshman, winning a couple of freshman of the week recognitions, averaging over 20 minutes and 8 points and nearly 4 rebounds per game. Plus, Winchester red-shirted as a freshman, so if he transfers within D-I he'll have to sit a year and thus forfeit a year of eligibility. This makes me suspect he has had some type of serious falling out with the staff at Wright State.

Wright State takes a hit as its best player, Mark Alstork, decides to transfer. He had previously declared for the draft but had indicated that if not drafted he would return to WSU--and he won't be drafted this year. But now he has sought and received his release. He was a redshirt junior last year, and he'll graduate this spring and be immediately elibible. Seems rather ungenerous to Coach Nagy, who put Alstork in the point guard slot and gave him the chance to star. Obviously a blow to the Horizon, too, to lose another 1st team all-conference player. And it raises the question--can mid-majors afford to take transfers any more? They sit a year, then transfer as graduate players with immediate eligibility. And you'd best not redshirt anyone, either. A follow up on the Alstork transfer: Alstork landed at Illinois, where the coach and fans were understandably very excited about adding him to the roster. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for either side. After averaging 19 per game for Wright State, Alstork shot the ball terribly for the Illini, and scored less than six points per game on the season. He faded badly down the stretch, scoring a total of 25 points in the last eight games and being held scoreless three times in that stretch. As a team, Illinois finished 11th in the Big Ten (that sentence sounds wrong, but it isn't), going 4-14 in conference and 14-18 overall. Alstork got ripped apart regularly on the Illinois hoop message boards. On the other hand, Wright State went 25-10, finished second in the HL standings, and won the conference tourney to earn an NCAA bid. I'd like to give Alstork some truth serum and ask, "Do you regret that decision?" I know some players transfer "up" because they think that playing at a high major will increase their NBA chances, but in some cases, it does just the opposite. Good job by Wright State to accomplish what they did without MA.

Kid from Belgium starts college in Arizona and then moves over to Wright State. That's a wandering road. The fact that he signed with Arizona would indicate that he is a good player, but I have no idea what kind of player Omar is.

The Raiders lost a verbal commitment from Noah Friedel (6'4" SG from Tea, SD) who was a good recruit. They still have a solid class coming into the program. But this freshman had the potential to be a Benzinger clone.

Wright State picks up another grad transfer. Aleksander Dozic from Marist. 6'9" 220 lbs. 7.0 PPG. 3.5 RBG. 84% FT%. Looks to be a replacement for Ernsthausen.
