Coach Hicks let go.
DETROIT (5/5/2023) -- University of Detroit Mercy Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. has announced that head women's lacrosse coach Dwayne Hicks will no longer lead the program. "I would like to thank Coach Hicks for his services to the University, especially during the pandemic, and for helping guide us through that difficult period," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "At this time, I feel that we need to move in a different direction with the program." Hicks took over as interim head coach in 2020 before being named to the full-time position after the season. In his three official years as head coach, the Titans were 7-32, while dealing with the pandemic and transitioning from the Southern Conference to the Mid-American Conference. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately

Titan spring season record…men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball is 9-56. If you add women’s basketball, it is 14-81. The only one of these that I feel confidence in is Coac Kate and basketball. Agree with UP…..time to say goodbye to AD Vowels.

Vowels has been here a decade and the athletic program is a disaster.

I would note that the total record of the women's lacrosse team from inception to now is 87-157 for a .357 percentage. The record under Vowels is 59-97 for a .378 percentage. The team had a good run from 2015-19, but the player revolt under Coach Callahan in 2020 harmed the team a lot. Callahan was fired and Hicks her assistant took over. Since 2020, women's lacrosse has gone 8-39. From 2015-2019, the team was 46-45.
Laura Maness, who built the women's lacrosse program here is now the coach at Kennesaw State where, until this season, her teams had been 42-51. But this year that team went 4-13 and 3-4 in the ASUN. Laurie Merian, her successor, left to take the head job at Albion where she has built a consistent winner there.
