A lineup of Anton Grady, Junior Lomomba, Trey Lewis, Bryn Forbes, and Kaza Keane might be a bit weak on the front line, but would still have the look of a Horizon champ. But it looks like the first 4 will be playing next year for Kansas, Providence, Louisville, and Michigan State. Give Gary Waters credit for landing some great recruits. In the old days-- like a decade ago -- Cleveland State would be readying for a big run in 2016. Sadly, I fear we are well into the last phase of the destruction of mid-major ball by the bigs.Sadly, I fear you are right. That has to be disheartening for the mid major coaches. Gary Waters must be sick. What has happened to Cleveland State the past couple of seasons is extreme, but mid majors all over are suffering from this relatively recent "transfer up" trend. It used to be that the high majors didn't raid the mid majors this much, but nowadays even programs like Duke, Kansas, Villanova, etc., will raid the MAC, HL, etc. I don't know how that gets fixed, either.

The Vikings took another hit yesterday when Kaza Keane, who started 20 games last year, announced his intent to transfer. CSU, which four months ago expected to have 3 starters returning, including two all-conference players, now has none. The Vikings lost 5 of their top six players in minutes played, scoring, rebounding, and assists. All told, they lose almost 80 percent of last year's scoring.

I feel bad for Coach Waters. A couple of guys I know have played for him, and they all say good things about him as a coach and as a person. Those are BRUTAL losses for his program. That's probably a top 25 type team with those guys back.

Watching Bryn Forbes score 32 points for Michigan State last night, I could only imagine the agony that the Cleveland State fans are feeling as they see the former Vikings playing well for other schools across the country. Torture.

Trey Lewis on fire for early for Louisville against Kentucky in a huge rivalry game. I hate to see that talent leave the HL, but selfishly speaking, I'm glad that the Titans don't have to deal with him.
The TV announcers on the game are praising Louisville for getting the graduate transfers from CSU and Drexel, but they are ignoring the tremendous blow that the losing mid major suffers in this situation.

Four of the top unsigned players in Ohio are Markell Johnson, Frankie Hughes, Tervell Beck, and Maishe Dailey.
Johnson, a 6-0 pg, is a 4 star recruit with ESPN, Scout, and Rivals. He has offers from Florida, Cincinnati and many others. He's one of those guys (I still don't understand this) who had been class of '17, but is talking now about signing with Class of 16. Three weeks ago he announced (another thing I don't quite get, HS kids making such announcements) his final 5 as Ohio State, Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech and Cleveland State, although this week he said he did not have a top 5 and was keeping all options open. He did take an unofficial visit to CSU last week.
Frankie Hughes, a 6-5 sg, signed a letter of intent to play for Louisville last fall. Last week he was released from that LOI. In the fall he chose Louisville over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and St. Joe's. He has an offer from Cleveland State.
Daily is a 6-6 sg who previously signed with Rutgers but was released from his LOI this month after the coaching change.
Tervell Beck is a 3 star, 6-6 small forward. His final 5 are Pitt, UNLV, Dayton, Kent State, and Cleveland State.
Northeast Ohio Recruits, an NCAA approved scouting service in Ohio, claims that the 4 have decided to attend the same school. What school keeps appearing on their lists? How many power conference schools still have 4 scholarships to be filled (like CSU does)?
If Gary Waters can pull this off, CSU will be back in business in an instant.

And an interesting thought... Markell Johnson announced a Final 5 in early March. Then he visits CSU. Just when it looked like Markell Johnson was getting set to go to Cleveland State, on March 30 he says he no longer has a final 5 and is keeping all options open. Ray McCallum is fired April 1 and Gary Waters mentioned in press as a candidate. We know that players often choose coaches as much as schools. Is it possible Waters suggested he keep his powder dry a little longer?
