2018 Solid Rock (GA) F/C Babatunde Sowunmi has committed to Oakland. Virtually nothing out there on this guy. He's tall and Nigerian. Braden Norris gave them a verbal a short time back. He had a couple of low major offers--Presbyterian, Binghamton, Robt. Morris. And then a verbal from Traveon Maddox, who I think is pretty good but hasn't had a lot of interest either. It's not a real impressive crew so far, but of course the proof is ultimately in the pudding. They'll also have Kamari Newman coming on next year, and he'll be good. But they lose Jalen Hayes, Martez Walker, Kendrick Nunn, and Nick Daniels, their three best starters and a 4 year rotation player. This is a big year for OU--if they don't come through, they may be looking at a couple down years.

Interesting. NJ 2.0? Big O 2.0? Odiase 2.0? No way to tell at this point, but he is a big one. As the Commish said, this is a big year for OU recruiting.

Wow. That's a blow to a team that was hoping to make a national breakthrough this year. And a blow to the Horizon League, which keeps losing its best players early. Yeah, as a college basketball fan whose team resides in the Horizon League, I'm sorry to see him go. As a fellow veteran, I felt a sense of pride watching him perform so well. I was expecting a big season from him. Huge news from Oakland--Detroit News' Tony Paul tweets that Brock is again practicing with the team. Brock is not the best player on Oakland, not with Nunn, Walker, and Hayes on the roster, but he strikes me as the soul of the team, and as the key missing part talent-wise. If Brock has decided to play after all, this is very big news and really improves the look of Oakland.

If I take off my Titan glasses to look at this, I am happy that the young man has resolved whatever issues and will continue his basketball career. It's a great story, and I imagine he would regret it if he had not played at least one more year. Slipping my Titan glasses back on, the negative side of the story is that his return strengthens an already tough OU team. Simply speaking as a basketball fan, the battles between Brock and Hogan should be good.

National college basketball writer (College Basketball Insider for CBS Sports, WFAN, and the FanRag Sports Network) Jon Rothstein is at Oakland taking in practice today. If I get a chance, I'll copy & paste his tweets. Too bad he can't stop and take in Titans practice while he's in the area.

Here comes what looks to me, at first glance, like a stupid ruling by the NCAA that will force Jalen Hayes to miss the first 4 games of the season. Jon Rothstein tells the tale: www.fanragsports.com/rothstein-jalen-hayes-to-miss-oaklands-first-four-games/Those first 4 games include what I thought was OU's best chance for a big-name win, against Syracuse. Hayes will get back in time to face Kansas in game 5. We might note that OU's other first three games are not total creampuffs--IPFW, Toledo, and New Orleans. New Orleans made the NCAA last year but they'll be down; however, IPFW and Toledo should be decent competition, and the Toledo game is on the road. When Isaiah Brock came back, it seemed that OU had all its ducks in order, but this is their second bad break in a week. Last week it was announced that 6-11 center Brad Brechting will be out until mid-January due to a broken bone in his foot.

Syracuse crushes Oakland 74-50. Orange hold Kendrick Nunn to 12 pets on 4-17 shooting.

Syracuse crushes Oakland 74-50. Orange hold Kendrick Nunn to 12 pets on 4-17 shooting. Disappointing stretch for Oakland. I know they were hoping to beat both Toledo and Syracuse, or at least beat the Rockets and put up a better showing against the Orange.
