There are reports that Michigan Coach John B is being considered for the head coach position with the Pistons. I fully expect JB to be back at Crisler Arena next season. There have been reports that he is working on a contract extension with the Maize and Blue.

Speculation is that this is a way to, a, get his extension hammered out ASAP, and/or, b, get his assistants paid better because they are paid way too little for the outstanding job they do. Warde has gotta pay these four, this is the most important job he has ever had as AD at Michigan. You don't have room for error.

Couple of player movement developments in the news for Michigan lately. Sophomore guard Ibi Watson has decided to transfer. Seems like a good player who got lost in the numbers at Michigan. Can probably make some noise in the right mid major situation. Big news is Mo Wagner has declared for the NBA draft and will be hiring an agent, making him ineligible to return to the Wolverines. He had a nice career. Mo Wagner goes at #25 to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following up on Carton, he just released a top six:
Apparently the rumor is that Michigan and OSU are his top two. Wilson and Carton as a two-man class would be great, but we're in on so many elite 2019s I'd almost be disappointed with just two, but of course would not want anyone to leave out of scholarship pressure. Update on Carton: He has cut his list to three, Indiana, Ohio State and Michigan. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/d-j-carton-195442

Instead of posting the in the JJ Jr and Ballantyne thread I figured I'd put it here. After poaching a number of high school players from the State, JJ Sr adds a former Detroit Redford and Michigan guard Dion Harris to his coaching staff at Spire Institute.

Don't know his background as a coach, but I certainly remember Harris as a player. Good to see him still involved in the game.

Michigan falls again overseas, 85-79 to Joventut. The Wolverines finish 1-2 in Spain.
Lots of big time teams are losing games overseas this summer. The gap is shrinking.

After starting the season with 17 wins in a row, the Wolverines finally lost, dropping a game to Wisconsin in Madison. No shame in that, but it did cost the Wolverines a probable shot at being ranked number one in the next poll. The short bench of the Wolverines was costly. Beilein's group probably gets back on track in the next game, when they host Minnesota. The rematch with the Badgers is February 9.

Michigan finished another excellent regular season with a 28-6 record, finishing 3rd in the conference and losing in the Big 14 tournament final. Losing three times to arch rival Michigan State probably stings UM fans, but Wolverines stayed in the upper echelon of college basketball all season. Lack of depth seemed to catch up with them at times this year. One area of concern could be the fact that after starting the season 17-0, they finished going 11-6, including those three losses to the Spartans and a weird loss to Penn State. The Wolverines got a favorable seeding from the selection committee, and open up against Montana, the same team they opened the tournament with last season. Montana's leading scorer and rebounder is doubtful for the game. www.mlive.com/wolverines/2019/03/champions-of-the-west-sizing-up-michigans-final-four-hopes.html

Michigan had a great season, going 30-7 and making it to the Sweet Sixteen. The end was bitter, as Michigan was taken apart by Texas Tech. The Wolverines offense was inconsistent all season, which is surprising considering Beilein has the rep as an offensive genius. On the plus side, the defense was strong all season.
Michigan will watch for any early departures or transfers, and look to solidify their roster during the off season. The Wolverines currently have two players signed for 2019.
