I'm glad to be playing Toledo again. I think there is a real opportunity there for us to develop a strong rivalry. All the pieces are in place: Proximity, Michigan/Ohio rivalry, Glass City versus the Motor City, etc.

A quick look at who's looking for games at Basketball Travelers that might be interesting:
UAB wants home & home starting this year in Birmingham. Princeton looking for home & home. They always seem to be. Strikes me as a good opponent. Usually decent, some name recognition, good RPI opponent usually because they win a lot in the Ivy. Lehigh also wants a home & home. If you could tie to Princeton would be a nice little swing. Lehigh doesn't do much for us in basketball but it's the kind of school you generally want to be associated with. Central Florida wants to start H&H. Bradley wants to start H&H.
Marquette wants to buy an opponent - have to swallow some pride but it's reality. I think the old fans would like that game. Pitt wants to buy. Good opponent, not too far. Missouri has some buy dates. So does Minnesota.

Interesting tidbit from the Twitterverse:
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 1h Arizona State's 14-15 non-conference schedule: CBE Classic, at Texas A & M and Marquette, home vs. UNLV, Harvard, Detroit, Lehigh.

On the other board, someone mentioned something about a traveling trophy for the battle of I-75 as part of a recap of the Cal Club dinner. Granted, that doesn't automatically mean an annual men's basketball game between Toledo and Detroit, but it might. :-) Sounds promising.

I don't think our rivalry with Oakland needs a trophy; I'd rather have us develop a secondary rival. Man, you just put a damper on my whole mood, TJ. :-)

Titans are advertising at Basketball Travelers for a H&H to start Dec. 3 or Dec. 30. Which leads me to note that Utah Valley (didn't we get Assistant Coach Steve Payne from there?) is looking to start a H&H on Dec. 30, and Northern Colorado is looking to start a series in Greeley on Dec. 3. Neither is a good geographic match up. East Tennessee State is looking to start an H&H in Johnson City on 12/3. And Eastern Michigan wants to start a series in Ypsi on Dec. 30. Does this make too much sense or what?

Does this make too much sense or what? As we have discussed before, U of D playing EMU makes sense on all levels. We're in competition for some of the same recruits. Players on both teams often know each other and played against each other in high school and AAU. It's a close "road trip" for fans of both teams. Lots of Detroiters attend/attended EMU, and games at Calihan are closer to some of them than games at the Convocation Center. Travel costs are almost non-existent. It makes so much sense, they HAVE to make it happen, don't they?

I've updated the Titans schedule based on today's announcement. The Titans' 12 D-I non-conference opponents had a 2014 average RPI of 129.25.

I like the fact that counting the summer games we will have eight "games" before jumping into the fire against VCU and Villanova. We'll need that on court time to gell and build chemistry.
We certainly didn't build a cupcake heavy schedule this year.
