Big Break for Broncos - Brown Back for 6th Season
Western Michigan caught a break late Thursday when David Brown, MAC Tournament MVP last year, was granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA. After a redshirt freshman year, Brown missed almost all of both the 2011 and 2012 seasons with injuries. He averaged 11 ppg in 2013 and over 19 ppg last season. The Broncos should again be major players in the MAC this year.

Good for him.

The Broncos have had a good day recruiting-wise with two verbal commitments for the class of 2019.
Canton High School guard B. Artis-White announced his commitment to WMU on social media. Artis-White reportedly also had offers from NKU and Cleveland State.
Also committing to WMU today is Chase Barrs, a 6-8 forward from Tampa, Florida. Per Verbal Commits, Barrs had offers from Columbia, Brown, Wofford, Canisius, and others.

Not a good season for the Broncos in 2018-19. WMU was picked to finish last in their division, and lived down to expectations, finishing 2-16, 8-24. The high mark of the season was probably the first game of the year, a home win over our Detroit Titans, as the Broncos withstood AD's announcement to the world that he was a force.
Seth Dugan started off the season with a 30-20 game against the Titans and finished averaging 17 and 10. Southfield native/sophomore guard Michael Flowers was the second leading scorer and is slated to return next year. He'll need help. The Broncos will likely be picked to finish near the bottom of the MAC again.

Finally got to see Bronco guard Jason Whitens in action this weekend. For those who might not remember, Jason is the guy that UP was advocating for when he was a senior in high school. There was some debate over whether he was a legit D1 talent or not because he played at a low level in high school, but the kid is a legit D1 player. Not a big scorer as a sophomore, but he's improved greatly since his freshman year. Plays a smart floor game, with just over a turnover per game in 25 minutes per. Uses his good guard size to average five rebounds per game to go with his five points per game. Has cracked double figures a few times. Good looking shot, but he only shoots 60% from the free throw line. He started the game against EMU. I can see him getting better as his career goes on.
Good call, UP.

Western Michigan fired coach Hawkins today. He's had a rough stretch in recent years. Might former Bronco star and current Michigan assistant Saddi Washington get a shot?

Interesting bit of info here. I wish we had hired Bronkema We should have hired the Ad from Ferris not the Basketball coach. Most of their sports programs have been successful in recent years. Football, Hockey( Div. 1 Final 4, Baseball, basketball, Track and Volleyball etc. Why purchase the sizzle when you can have the steak? He gets it done. I think he makes it easy for his coaches to be successful. He makes it about his coaches and student athletes not about himself. I think even BA could be successful there.

Interesting bit of info here. I wish we had hired Bronkema I was very enthusiastic about the possibility of our hiring Bronkema. But we didn't, and I thought Davis was a good hire. I suspect WMU is actually a better fit for Bronkema, though, and I think he will be very successful there if hired. The guy is a great recruiter, motivator, and coach.
