So he's good enough for the Magic or the Rockets? The NBA is weak as water these days. Wouldn't shock me if he was the next ineffective modern college player to have success in the NBA. Revisiting this post from last year where Titansforver and I were discussing Peyton Watson, who had declared for the NBA draft after averaging 3 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 32/23/69%. Well, young Peyton was drafted in the first round by the OKC Thunder with the 30th pick overall. He was then traded to the Denver Nuggets. He spent some time in the G League, but has appeared in 23 games (2 starts) for the Nuggets, averaging 3 points and 1.6 rebounds in about eight minutes per game. But here's the big stat: He'll make 4.5 million dollars over the first two years of his rookie contract, and there are two more years left on that deal as a team option. All this for a guy who struggled in every facet of the game in college. Like I said, today's NBA is as weak as water. And this is why so many players who struggle in college are quick to declare for the draft. They see a guy like Watson have financial success, and they don't think about the ones that don't.

This item, which I just read on Twitter, illustrates one of the things that turns people off about college basketball these days:
Providence transfer Will McNair, Jr. has committed to Kansas State, per source. Played last season at Mississippi State and the three seasons before that at New Mexico State.

The Times Have Changed: The average age of the players in the Memphis Tigers projected starting lineup is 23 years. That's around the same age as the average of NBA teams Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Houston, and Orlando. Having a team that old in college generally meant good things: You had a bunch of guys who had been in the program for years and knew the system and their teammates. Not so for Memphis. Each of their starters is a transfer in their first year with the Tigers program. Ironically, Memphis would have been even older, but returnee DeAndre Williams was denied a waiver for a sixth year by the NCAA. Williams, who was previously at Evansville before playing for Memphis the past three seasons, is 27 years old. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/38810417/ncaa-denies-memphis-deandre-williams-extra-year-eligibility

I say it’s a waste of time, money and effort to pursue this level of player.

Here's a switch. Decades after the lawsuits were based on players wanting to leave college early, players are now suing to stay in college longer. 🤔
