I suppose an unsurprising outcome although I didn't 100% see it coming. You can imagine a few factors contributed to this: 1) players having bigger egos than their actual talents, and thinking they should have things (better opportunities, minutes) handed to them 2) parents or 'advisors' giving kids bad advice and helping fuel their minds in thinking item #1 You used to have to put in hard work to get to where you want to go, and to achieve things. Now its all supposed to be on a platter for you. Good post. I think those factors you mentioned apply to more cases than not.

As we move into August, still seeing players who announced their transfers with much fanfare and the intention of "taking it to the next level" committing to JUCOs. There is nothing wrong with Junior Colleges, of course, but if you transfer from a D1 program, landing at a JUCO is not the route you hope to take.

WKU has had two players enter the transfer portal this week. There has been speculation from those following the program that the two players were "run off" as WKU looks to add a couple of late recruits for the class of 2019. It gets overlooked sometimes in the discussion about transfers, but there are probably more transfers that stem from the coach looking to free up space than the college coaches would like to admit.
That's another reason why I wouldn't blame a mid major coach for keeping a scholarship open, when it doesn't hurt the current team to do so. One of the WKU guys hitting the portal this week is a 6-10, 240 freshman who played 10 mins per game last season, averaging 3 points and 3 rebounds. I think most mid major programs would love to take a guy like that.

UofM football is 2nd to my titans, I follow the program closely, and if someone isn't producing coach Harbaugh has no problem encouraging them to seek other opportunities.

Good player, but talk about bad timing

Good player, but talk about bad timing Brutal timing, and a kick to the gut for the Hampton players and staff. Usually a transfer this late occurs when a player has used the summer to get enough credits to graduate.

Other changes in transfer status reported on verbal commits.
Vijay Blackmon leaves Indiana for Lindenwood University.
Jalone Friday, who was B.J. Maxwell's teammate at Abilene Christian and who had been suspended at the same time is back on the market after not enrolling at New Mexico State as previously reported.

Usually a transfer this late occurs when a player has used the summer to get enough credits to graduate. This looks to me like either he just got his summer school grades and he's not going to be eligible, or he's in disciplinary trouble. A third possibility is, I suppose, tampering--if he signs quickly with a clearly stronger program.

I think this is our first high profile transfer of the 2019-20 season. Freshman Issac McBride is transferring from Kansas. He was a four star recruit in the class of 2020. Not sure what is triggering this move, but it caught some Kansas fans I know by surprise.

I read recently that there were 150 players who put their names in the transfer portal who are still sitting in the transfer portal. Of course, many of them may have circumstances beyond finding a suitable place to land; academic issues, health issues, etc., but that seems like a lot. Of course, there is no guarantee that what's in the portal is accurate; I don't know if players automatically take their names out when they land somewhere.

I'm glad we got good news on our waiver request, but I swear it seems like the NCAA does something random like flip a coin to decide who does and doesn't get a waiver.
