Wyking Jones fired at Cal. They had a terrible season, but showed some life at the end. Kind of surprising to hear this news today as reports had stated last week that he was being brought back for at least another year. Jason Kidd rumored to be the early favorite for this job

Edit: If Kidd expressed interest in the job that could explain Cal's apparent change of mind about keeping Jones. It would not be the first time Kidd stabbed someone in the back to get a job that was already filled.

If I was running the Lakers, I'd probably hire Mark Jackson.

Nebraska lost in the NIT last night, so we should hear something soon about the status of head coach Tim Miles. As I have said before, Miles is held in high regard by some media members, although I never understood why. Recent reports had him on the way out, with Fred Hoiberg likely to replace him, but then he won a couple of games at the Big 14 tourney and an NIT game, so maybe he earned a reprieve, ESPECIALLY since some high profile jobs have opened up that would seem to be more attractive to a guy like Hoiberg.

Interesting tweet from Mitch Gilfillan today: "Wofford's Mike Young went 74-103 without a winning season in his first six years. Since then, he has been to the NCAA tournament five times in ten years. Sustaining a winning foundation takes time, patience, and losing seasons. Most coaches/staffs do not have that luxury."
I generally agree with this statement, although six years without a winning record requires A LOT of patience from fans and administration. I thought Jones should have gotten more than two years at Cal. Truthfully, I wouldn't have protested too loudly had BA been given a third year, despite the fact that there were other negatives beyond the win/loss record on his ledger. As of now, Texas appears to be showing patience with Shaka Smart while Alabama wasn't so patient with Avery Johnson. Time will tell if those decisions work out, although, if recent history here and across the nation is any indication, if Johnson's replacement fails, the people who advocated for his firing won't admit they made a mistake.

If I was running the Lakers, I'd probably hire Mark Jackson. I don't follow the NBA much at all, but if I do have just a little interest, it's the Lakers. As a kid, in the 1980's, Kareem was my favorite player and so the Lakers were my team. As far as Kidd - definitely a "no" as to their Head Coaching job. I'm figuring Lebron will just choose whom ever he wants....

Alabama is reportedly negotiating a buyout for head coach Avery Johnson. Johnson had four seasons with the Tide with three NIT appearances and one NCAA appearance. NKU Coach John Brannen supposedly is the lead candidate to replace Avery Johnson.
