A quick littel wrap on other Titan athletic teams.
Men's and women's lacrosse are both struggling. The men are 0-5, having lost by a lot to #11 Ohio State and #1 Notre Dame, and by 1 goal to Mercer and Bellarmine and 2 to Marquette. They are off until March 19, when they open conference play at Manhattan. The women are 0-4, having been blown out by #18 Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Marquette, and in a bit closer match up by Oregon. They have two home games this weekend at Titan Field: on Friday they host Virginia Commonwealth at 2:00, and on Sunday they host Delaware State at 11:00.
Men's golf had a rough start in the fall, finishing 9th in each of the Weibring (Illinois State - 18 teams), Northern Kentucky (11 teams) and Cleveland State (13 teams) invitationals. But they closed the fall strong, finishing 1st of 15 teams at Dayton. They picked up where they left off with the first spring meet, the Jackrabbit (South Dakota State) Invitational at Las Vegas. The Titans finished 2nd of 9 teams, just 1 stroke behind the first place Jackrabbits. They are off until an invitational at Villanova on March 28-29.
The Ladies Golf team has started slow, finishing 3rd of 4 at the Legacy Warmup in Florida on March 6 and 8th of 9 at the Seminole (State) Invitational 2 days later.
Men's tennis is 2-8, with the only wins over Wayne State and Wisconsin Whitewater. In their last match, they lost to Northwestern--not the Big 10 school, but little Northwestern, Ohio. They face the real Northwestern this Saturday in Evanston. The women's tennis squad is 1-4 in spring play, and plays at Akron on Saturday.
Men's and women's outdoor track & field begins April 1 with the Colonial Invitational at William & Mary.
Finally, women's softball is 5-16, and currently on a 7 game losing streak. They've been in Florida all week, and have 4 more games there, starting Friday against Iona as part of the Univ. South Florida Under Armor Showcase.
Pretty grim, except for men's golf.

Oakland won the Horizon Women's Cross Country Championship today. The Titans finished 6th, and UD's Devon Sutton finished 7th to make first team all-conference.
Youngstown State won the men's title with UIC as runner up. Oakland and Detroit tied for fifth on points, but OU won the tie breaker based on their top finisher. Oakland's Bryce Stroede (which is a great name for a runner) finished first overall, edging out our Ben Kendle, who was runner up for the second straight year.

The Lady Titans Lacrosse team beat Furman yesterday, 16-13, clinching a spot in the 4 team Southern Conference tournament that will determine the conference's representative in the NCAA championships. The Titans are in second place in the Southern Conference. This week the Titans have a pair of non-conference games against Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina, and then will face Central Michigan on April 28 at Titan field, with winner claiming the regular season title and the #1 seed in the conference tournament. Yes, for lacrosse, Central Michigan and Detroit are in the Southern Conference. No, Virginia-based Old Dominion and South Carolina's Coastal Carolina are not.

Men's and women's golf pulled off the rare double bogey, with each finishing last in the Horizon championships held over the last three days. I expected that from the women, who have been pretty bad all year, but the men have shot better at times.

In men's tennis, the top-seeded Titans shutout Green Bay today in the semi-finals of the Horizon Conference Tournament. The win avenges the Titans' only regular season conference loss, a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Phoenix in late March. The Titans, already Horizon regular season champions, face #2 seed Cleveland State in the finals tomorrow for the Horizon Tournament title.

The Women's lacrosse team drubbed Central Michigan, 17-9, Saturday to win the Southern Conference regular season championship. The two teams actually tied for the title but the Titans will have the top seed in the Conference tournament by virtue of Saturday's victory.
The Titans sole conference loss was a 17-16 loss to Mercer in double overtime. The Titans will have a chance to avenge that defeat on Thursday in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament, when they face 4th seeded Mercer. The Ladies will have to overcome a home field advantage, however--the tournament this year is being played at Mercer.

The Women's Lacrosse team lost 18-17 to Mercer in the Southern Conference Semi-Finals. Tough defeat, but the team can take pride in winning the Southern Conference regular season title.
This was the first year for women's lacrosse in the SoCon--previously we played in the Atlantic 10--and the women were dominant during the regular season. Besides winning the title, the women swept the conference's individual honors. Sophomore Kaitlyn Wandelt was the conference Offensive Player of the Year; junior Allison McDonough was Defensive Player of the Year; Meredith Moore was Freshman of the Year, and Coach Laurie Merian was Coach of the Year. Senior Lauren Webley, and juniors Lexie Kinmond and Morgan Girardi joined Wandelt and McDonough on the All-Conference team, and Seniors Jordyn Beam and Brittany Fenney made the Second team.

The Titan men and women each finished in 5th place in the Horizon Track & Field championships held over the weekend. Oakland won the men's title, Youngstown State the women's.
The Titans had two first place finishes: Sophomore Kyri Jackson won the women's heptathalon, claiming bragging rights as best all-around woman athlete in the conference. Sydnie Fetherolf won the women's 1500 meter run.

Congratulations to Ben Kendell!
After finishing second each of the last two years, the Detroit senior won the Horizon League individual cross country championship yesterday with a time of 24:19. Junior James McCann also made first team all-conference, finishing 6th. But the rest of the Titan team wasn't nearly so strong and the Titans finished just 6th in the final team standings. Youngstown State claimed the team championship.
The women's cross country team finished a disappointing 9th. Sophomore Claire Kendell was the top individual, finishing 11th. Milwaukee claimed the women's team title.
Oakland finished 8th on the men's side and 4th on the women's side, so each school picked up 2 points in the Metro Cup series. Oakland now leads that series 6-2 after sweeping men's and women's soccer, each by 1-0 scores.

A pretty good spring for Titan athletic teams.
As noted in the lacrosse thread, the Lady Titans tied for the Southern Conference regular season championship. The men tied for second in the MAAC. Both squads begin league tournament play on Thursday.
The Titans softball team appears likely to finish the Horizon season in second place. Junior Liz Murphy threw a no-hitter this weekend against Northern Kentucky. The Horizon tournament will be held at UIC May 8-11.
The Men's Fencing squad finished 8th of 19 teams in the NCAA Midwest Regional and 26th in the national finals. The women finished 9th of 17 teams in the Midwest Regional.
The Horizon track and field tournaments will be held next week end at Youngstown. Earlier this spring, the Titan men finished 5th of 13 teams and the women 3rd of 12 teams at the Golden Grizzley Invitational.
Women's tennis finished 6th in the Horizon.
Golf was a disappointment, as both the men's and women's teams finished 8th in the Horizon championships last weekend.
