Good three point shooter. Over 40% the past two seasons. And thank you, Coach Holmes, for referring to us as Detroit.

He's the guy who sent out the tweet. I'm guessing he's serving as Jenkins contact person in dealing with interested parties. He's the founder of a post grad basketball academy and travel program

Spoke to one of the assistants after tonight’s event. He said we have three firm commitments in addition to Pink. A 7-1 grad transfer, a 6-11 freshman, and another grad transfer (I’m guessing BJ Maxwell). We had a 6-8 Belgium kid ready to sign but he backed out due to the APR issue. We hope to get at least two more commitments soon and look for the entire recruiting class to be wrapped up and announced in about two weeks. Cian Sullivan (from Ireland) a grad transfer from LaSalle with 2 years eligibility remaining, is the only 7+' player listed on verbal commits, who's a grad transfer and still uncommitted. Kelvin Jones, at 6'11", from Idaho State, is the other player that is close in height, and an unsigned grad transfer. Jones is the far better player of the two, just based on scoring and playing time I can't be Sullivan - he committed to Hartford today BTW, anyone having a hard time logging in today. I went for hour+ stretches this morning and afternoon where I kept getting an error screen after pressing "log in"

Thanks for posting. Hopefully we sign enough talent that Maxwell can be our instant offense/ 3 point shooter off the bench - our own version of the microwave, Vinnie Johnson. Now that the cat's out of the bag and national media have reported this, it doesn't seem like there's much point in not releasing the names of the players that are currently signed. Doesn't seem like there's much point in waiting to August for one or two guys, who they have yet to recruit. I know that myself, I'm starting to lose my joy and enthusiasm for the program with all our bad news and delays in recruiting. A little good news, like 3 or 4 player names, might brighten things up and encourage a little positive Titan talk

I don't understand why everything is so hush, hush @ UofD it's not like we are signing 5 star players, coach Byrdsong was forthcoming with information and initially coach Watson was also very forthcoming, however that changed towards the end of his tenure. The Ray Mccalum era started this top secret nonsense and it has continued into the Mike Davis era. As Mcsam stated there are ways to leak information especially in the internet and social media era. First, the signing period ends on May 15th. Last weekend was the last evaluation period permitted before the signing period ends. There's plenty of time left to sign players. Second, if you are recruiting transfers, then you have to respect the different ends of their current school years and not cause anything that would prevent them from graduating (if they are grad transfers) or failing a class if they are JUCOs. Third, the sudden surge of grad transfer recruits in the Power 6 conferences is creating a ripple effect of available players that normally would not be available to mid-major teams at this point. The players themselves have to adjust to the fact that they will not get a scholarship at a P-6 school and must look down the line. Players that we would not have had a chance at in prior years are suddenly available. Fourth, we have to accept the fact that Coach Davis and his staff have a much different set of recruiting contacts and resources than we have been accustomed to dealing with at UD. This is the first full recruiting season in which these resources can be tapped. Most of us recruiting sleuths likely do not know where to look. Fifth, our school year and exam period ends next week. Like Commissioner has speculated, there may be roster attrition that needs to be filled and that may not be a fully known variable even now. Sixth, only the best of the P-6 schools can afford to let the public know who they are considering because if that player decides to go elsewhere, they have 3 more 4-stars lined up willing to be walk-ons where we and other mid-majors don't have that depth available on our recruiting charts. Thus, if we have chances at some good players, we would not want that known until the player is signed and enrolled for the May 26th first day of the summer term. In these cases, leaks could hurt our effort. In other words, any upset stomachs that we endure because we core supporters don't know everything is less important than actually signing the best players possible. This is especially true on a public message board that can be read by anyone. In today's competitive recruiting environment, I want results and don't care if I don't know about the results until well after the fact. This is a much different recruiting environment than existed when most of us were college students. Privacy and confidentiality have more value now. While I would like something more substantial than other schools' foreign trips to discuss, in the end, I'd rather wait a few more weeks and see the whole package. One more thing. If you want to bug Coach Davis about recruiting, then sign up for the Titan Club Appreciation dinner that is scheduled for two weeks from today. Click on the link and sign up. Coach Davis will be there and mingling with the guests. Corner him and force him to reveal all secrets. Excellent post, I appreciate your positive outlook. However, I dont like the way coach Davis is piece-mealing the 2019-2020 roster together. I can understand him having to do that last season due to the fact that he wasnt hired until June, there is really no excuse for us to have 6 open roster slots in late May.

Welcome B.J. Maxwell (I'm assuming reports are true). Byron Ray Maxwell. … Born 03 June 1997. 6'4", 190 lbs. High School: As a senior, played for the Oklahoma Storm, and led the team to its third straight Home School national championship in 2014-15. Voted the National Home School Player of the Year following his senior season of 2014-15. … Maxwell averaged 18.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists and was a first team selection on The Daily Oklahoman’s Little All-City Team in 2014-15. … Maxwell averaged more than 20 points per game at the national tournament was named the tournament MVP. Abilene Christian2015-16 - Redshirt Year | MPG | PPG | RPG | APG | FG % | 3 Pt. % | FT % | SPG | BPG | 2016-17 | 10.5 | 3.4 | 1.9 | 0.6 | 48.9 | 45.8 | 100.0 | 0.3 | 0.2 | 2017-18 | 9.9 | 3.4 | 2.2 | 0.6 | 46.7 | 35.5 | 56.3 | 0.3 | 0.4 | 2018-19 | 26.8 | 9.2 | 4.7 | 1.7 | 49.1 | 40.5 | 85.3 | 1.1 | 0.4 |
According to stat guru Ken Pomeroy, Maxwell had the 11th highest Offensive Rating ("A measure of personal offensive efficiency developed by Dean Oliver. The formula is very complicated, but accurate") in the country last year. Abilene Reporter-News, Feb. 21, 2019: BTW, note that Maxwell and Jalone Friday played together as home-schoolers in high school before playing together at Abilene Christian. Friday reportedly made a verbal commitment to New Mexico State in April, but it would be cool if the 6-9 center, a former Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and 2d Team All-Conference selection, were to join Maxwell in Detroit. I won't totally write that off yet. Here's a nice profile of Maxwell from the ACU student newspaper, ironically published shortly before he was dismissed from the team: acuoptimist.com/2019/02/b-j-maxwell-a-different-path-to-college-basketball/I don't know the issue at ACU, but something tells me it wasn't all that serious. Welcome to Detroit B.J. Maxwell.

According to the UDM website, summer classes started May 6th, and the next session starts June 24th, I am assuming at least a couple of recruits should be known by then. It very well could be that we are still waiting for all or most of the recruits to be officially admitted/cleared/signed/etc. before making an announcement. I think most fans would prefer to hear about signings as they happen, rather than waiting for a big announcement for the whole class, and I think most players would like to get that word out quickly. I know AAU coaches and a lot of high school coaches like to announce when their players sign with a college. Crazy as it sounds, it could be that only Pink is an official member of the Titan class so far. Verbal Commits is probably getting their information from Goodman's list, and I've seen mistakes on his list and others like it before. Most years I think we have had word of a recruit committing to the Titans from non-official sources and it turns out to not be true, for a variety of reasons. I share everyone's frustration, with the lack of information and with the apparent piecemeal way this class is being put together. In a perfect world, I would have liked to see our recruiting go the way say, High Point's has gone for 2019: Four high school players officially announced in May, three from the home state and one from a neighboring state, with the remaining two spots still to be filled from players they are currently evaluating. Or even like EMU, which had a lot of spots to fill but moved quickly in the Spring JUCO market to fill the bulk of those slots. Davis does have a long history of success as a head coach, and has shown a good ability to develop and evaluate players. I am hopeful that translates into a good class with some players who are ready to contribute right away, and improvement from some of our young returnees. Go Titans.

6'1" pg from Farragut HS (Chicago) Aaron Strong was offered. He's qualified academically and is a big time scorer I saw one report indicating that Strong was a likely juco--implied due to academics. If he's only recently qualified, that might explain why he had no offers before. You were right on this one Commish
