I continue to be impressed with the job Tommy Amaker is doing as he recruits talent to Harvard. I read today that 2017 recruit Mario Haskett committed to Harvard. Haskett is a solid three star player, ranked just outside the top 200 by 24/7 Sports. In years past, he would be a stand out recruit for the Crimson, but today, that kind of player is the norm for Amaker. Harvard's 2016 class would be considered great for the vast majority of Power Five teams. There are four ESPN Top 100 players in that class, along with two three star players. I like Tommy. Thought he did a good job at Michigan under tough circumstances, and was run out before they put a ton of money into the program for Beilein. I expected him to do well at Harvard, but I didn't think anyone would be able to recruit there as well as he has. Kudos to him. espn.go.com/colleges/basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/108/class/2016Interesting note: Mario chose Harvard in part because he thinks the program can help him get to the NBA. That's Harvard: Launching pad to the NBA. Kentucky of the Northeast. :-) www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1679360-mario-haskett-commits-harvard

Kentucky of the Northeast. :-) www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1679360-mario-haskett-commits-harvardI don't disagree with anything you say, and I also find Mario's last comment interesting. I've suggested before, and I'll say again, I think the Ivies could relatively soon become an athletic juggernaut nearly on par with where they were in the 1890s. Sometimes it is hard to appreciate just how much money is coursing through Harvard and Yale, in particular. A few years ago Harvard's new president promised to revitalize athletics, and she's started following through. There is probably no school in the country--not Kentucky, not Ohio State, not Texas, no one--that can devote as much (if it chooses) to creating top quality athletic facilities, athletic perks (study areas, lounges, food), recruiting budgets, coaching salaries, guarantee games, and more. In the old days, not offering scholarships certainly hurt, but now Harvard provides free undergrad tuition for anyone with a household income up to something like $75K, and very generous aid until the family income is somewhere up around the $200 K level, so the lack of athletic scholarships probably doesn't hurt Amaker much. And of course they can promise a Harvard degree. I'll bet a lot of parents, if not the kids, love that, but I'll bet the smart kids do, too. And obviously the admissions standards restrict their pool of recruits, but there are lots of smart kids out there. If it becomes a belief that you can get to the NBA and get that Harvard degree. they could soon be real power. Yale and Columbia also seem to have made a new commitment to athletics, and I doubt the old powers--Princeton and Penn--are going to let themselves be pushed to the bottom without a fight. All these schools have a ton of dough. Could soon be glory days again for the Ivies.

The success of Jeremy Lin also is helpful in recruitment.

The success of Jeremy Lin also is helpful in recruitment. I'm sure that doesn't hurt, and it gets used in the pitch. On the other hand, Davidson isn't bringing in the four stars due to Steph Curry, and Damine Lilliard's success hasn't brought a windfall to Weber State. :-) I saw that Coach BA was tweeting about the history of the Titans in the NBA, and I hope that is publicized more than it has been. It's a positive that we should be talking about in recruiting.

Big weekend coming up for Harvard. Amaker is not messing around. Carter is a five star recruit, Haskett is a three star, and Danilo has Atlantic 10 offers.

After putting together a very strong class for 2018, Harvard adds the first commit for the class of 2019, adding Ciaran Brayboy. Brayboy is rated a four star recruit by ESPN, which might be high. He is rated a three star by 24/7 and Future 150. He had interest from high majors and offers from DePaul and others.
After several NCAA seasons, Harvard is in a stretch where they haven't made the Dance since 2015. Last season's team finished tied for first in the Ivy and lost in the first round of the NIT to Marquette, but they bring back a lot of scoring and experience, along with a very good freshman class. Could be a big year for Harvard.

Harvard adds another player in the class of 2019, as Idan Tretout commits to the Crimson. Idan is considered a three star recruit. This year is a big one for Harvard. The highly regarded class of 2016 are in their junior year. Harvard hasn't been to the tournament since 2015, but they could be dancing again in 2019. 247sports.com/Player/Idan-Tretout-94675/
