Early thoughts on the in process Hoop Night.
The Oak Park band put on a show to kick things off.
Isaiah Jones in sweats, everyone else on practice uniforms.
Men and Women teams competing in a challenge. Fun stuff. Rap battle, impersonations, etc. Jones does a good impression of Bacari.
Three point shooting context with mixed teams up now.

Patrick Robinson and Haley won the three point contest.

Mixed two person teams in a passing, dribbling and shooting skills competition. Jarod's team won. He looks healthy. No apparent braces or wraps. Moving well.
A student tried a half court shot for five thousand dollars. JUST missed. Poor guy.
Oak Park marching band performing again. They are great.

Women scrimmaged for about ten minutes.
Men didn't scrimmage but ran a three on three continuous break drill.
An IPad was given away at the final activity. That's all, folks!

The Oak Park band was good and LOUD. They also filled up almost the entire space of one of the end zone bleacher sections. It would be great if we could work in a high school band into a few home games this season to help improve the fan experience. I love our pep band, but given our small school size and lack of a music program at UDM, there just aren't enough bodies in the group to create an oomph factor. It's a stated part of our marketing plan to reach out to the community, and inviting high school bands to perform is one way to do this.

I think we should have a local high school marching band in for every game, if possible. Every one that has performed in the past few years has been entertaining and enthusiastic, bringing a high level of energy to the game. I hate to say it, but our own pep band generally gives the impression of being there only out of obligation. They generally don't even cheer for the team. Some of the Oak Park band was really into the three point shooting contest and the skills competition. Usually, when local high school bands perform, they are pretty into the game when they are not performing. I think it would be a nice way to improve the game experience and connect with the community.

Agree with you both. Add some zip. I would think at least some of the band members would think it a cool opportunity, and it's a good way to reach out to the community.

I walked in tonight for Hoop Night in the D and the first person I saw was Titan Ben. Some things never change.

I thought Hoop Night in the D went well. It followed the usual format: Player introductions, comments from the coaches, performances from the Cheer and Dance teams, skills competition, three point shoot out featuring teams consisting of one men's player and one women's player, and a few minutes of a continuous fast break drill. There were some contests that attendees were able to compete in, and an abbreviated game featuring a girls teams from a local middle school. There was no dunk contest this year.
There wasn't much opportunity to get a feel for the players on either team. A duo featuring Corey Allen won the three point contest. Josh McFolley and his partner from the girls team came in second. Eichler looked bigger and seemed to move on the court better. Prince LOOKS like a legit player. Jack B is a big kid and looks like he has a nice shooting touch. Corey and Josh looked ready to drop twenty in a conference game. I was told that JJ Jr. was out of town for a funeral; he was not in attendance.
The Dancing Suit Wearing Guy was there, doing his thing. No tie tonight, but a full suit.
The crowd seemed slightly bigger than last year. There were more students in attendance and some of them were very enthusiastic. The Pep Band had a different director, but the same low level of pep. Unfortunately, there was no high school band taking part in this year's event.
Got to see my buddies RogoBob and Denny Crane. Saw Titan Ben from a distance and called to him, but he either didn't hear me or has gotten too cool to associate with me. After the event, I had the opportunity to talk to both Coach BA and Coach Scott. Both are optimistic.
All in all, a pleasant enough evening in a program that lasted around 90 minutes. Looking forward to the start of the season.
Go Titans.

Even with the loss of the Horizon's leading 3 point shooter (Robinson!), the Titans seem to have plenty of 3 point shooting.
I think this all comes down to getting the parts to mesh together, and playing better defense. This team certainly has the talent, inside and out, to put points on the board.
