Wow. No kidding; that is a serious turnabout. That's good for him. I think he is a good coach.

Alec Brown is drafted by Suns, 20th pick 2nd round, #50 overall. An analyst said this about Brown, which echoes some of the same things we have said: "I like Brown's size and shooting ability, but it always baffled me that he didn't put up better numbers at his level." Good luck to him, though. It would be nice to have another HL guy in the NBA.

Lamin Fulton is transferring from Green Bay. Fulton started 5 games last year, and for the season averaged 11 minutes and 2.3 points per game. His playing time declined over the last part of the year, as freshman Tevin Findlay basically displayed him as GB's #3 guard, but he did play 17 minutes (scoring a season high 7 points) in the NIT against Belmont. I wouldn't be surprised if this were one of the many transfers initiated by the coaches as much as the player. Not a major loss, but it will hurt Green Bay's depth at guard.

The Phoenix struggled a bit in their exhibition with Ripon last night, leading just 31-26 at the half. Keifer Sykes scored 16 in the second half as they pulled away to win 78-56. The starting line up was as I predicted in the previews: Sykes, Carrington Love, Jordan Fouse, Greg Mays, Kenneth Lowe.
Tale of minor interest: Hayden Hoerdemann signed with Western Michigan out of HS. As a soph in HS he was a fairly hot recruit, with mid-major offers in hand and interest from the likes of Wichita State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Notre Dame and Illinois. His play leveled off though, the expected BCS offers did not materialize, and he ended up choosing WMU over offers from Illinois State and lesser mid-majors. As a freshman at WMU, he played 21 minutes and scored 12 points against Duke; later he scored 18 points in a game against Northern Illinois. He averaged over 10 minutes a game for the Broncs, but his time decreased a lot in the last half of the year. As a soph his PT declined to just a couple minutes per game, and it was the same last year. He transferred down to D-III Ripon (where his younger brother is on the team). You might think he'd be a D-III star. But last night he still played just 12 minutes for Ripon and did not start the game. Just interesting to see - it looks like he's the same player today as he was as a high school freshman. Which just shows the degree to which recruiting has a crap-shoot element to it.

A year after signing his five year extension, Wardle has left Green Bay for Bradley. Nice step up for him. Green Bay is in a tough spot of trying to fill it's head coaching job and retain players while in the middle of a live recruiting period.

Green Bay may be feeling the loss of Brian Wardle. Freshman Daeshon Francis is transferring. The 6-3 guard averaged 13.5 mpg and 4.5 ppg, with season highs of 25 minutes and 17 points against Oakland. Over the last 8 games he averaged 18 minutes and 6.3 ppg. Recruits Antoine Pittman and Julian Torres were released from Letters of Intent to look elsewhere. Don't be surprised if all three end up with Wardle at Bradley. The 6-3 Pittman had offers from Nevada and Tennessee State when he signed with GB in the fall. Torres, a 6-9 pf, had offers from UIC, Northern Illinois, and -interestingly- Bradley, among others, but signed with GB last fall.

Starting guard Carrington Love was arrested on Friday for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Love pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial hearing is set for December 16. Love is expected to be on the floor at the start of GB's opener on Friday at Stanford. But this can't be good.
