Duquesne, as everyone knows by now, has a new coach, former Akron head coach Keith Dambrot. Dambrot quickly offered Jermaine Jackson, who is now planning an official visit there this coming week-end. Dambrot has also offered Jack Ballantyne and 2018 Titan targets Duane Washington and Brandon Wade.
Coaching changes make kids think about tranferring, since a bond to the coach is often as important as a bond to the school. Today the Dukes' star recruit from the 2016 class, Michael Lewis, announced that he will be staying at Duquesne. Lewis averaged 14.1 ppg while shooting 36% from behind the arc as a freshman. Lewis is a shooting guard, and so not a direct barrier to JJJ, but it does give them a bit less need of a guard and a bit less playing time available in the backcourt. (Their point guard, Tarin Smith, was a redshirt sophomore this year, after transferring from Nebraska and sitting a year.)
Lewis staying means that playing time will be blocked for Rochester's Spencer Littleson, a 6-4 SG also from the Class of '16. Littleson played 20 minutes or more in 4 of Duquesne's first 5 games, but played more than 10 minutes only once after December 10. I would suspect he might consider transferring, and if so, the young men often return closer to home. Of course, we have a shooting guard--Cory Allen--he'll be behind, too, so it's not a likely fit.

Duquesne continues to recruit the Mitten State, with an offer to Carlos Johnson of West Michigan being the latest example. Carlos tweeted news of his offer with a pic of the Duquesne logo and I got excited for a moment thinking it was ours.

View AttachmentLol, I think that coach Davis will recruit and sign some of the players that have slipped through the cracks the last few seasons.

Duquesne, coming off a solid 21-9, 11-7 season, is having success this off season, despite the unusual recruiting situation. They've landed three recruits for the class of 2020 in the past few days: A power forward out of Arizona, a point guard out of Ohio, and a small forward out of NJ. They join Cass Tech guard Tyson Acuff and a shooting guard out of Pennsylvania, who committee earlier. verbalcommits.com/schools/duquesne

This year it seems as if they only used our services to scout Acuff.
