That is a messy situation. Ugh. Yes it is, does anyone know if Jaleel Hoogan is enrolled in summer school? I don't know about summer school for Jaleel, but that would make sense. The mention that the situation might not be resolved until August makes me think maybe he is trying to get some academic work done in the summer, either to regain eligibility at U of D or be admitted to UAB.

It has been hinted at on the other board that Hogan just might be returning (if he can get his academics in order), and Tariiq Jones, the 6'7" wing/forward from Schoolcraft, may also end up being on board (maybe in place of Corey Mendez). Those moves would complete the roster, and have me feeling more optimistic then I've been in awhile about this team. I still don't think we are world beaters or an NCAA Tournament team, but after last season's embarrassing mess, I'd take a hopefully .500 team (or slightly better) with a few nice young pieces to develop, plus BA is at least offering some solid, non family member prospects in 2018 and 2019. With the state of Michigan's 2018 class being so deep, maybe by landing the 10th or 15th ranked player, we will end up having a stud in the Horizon League. Anyways, for today, I'm feeling optimistic - but maybe it's just the meds kicking in

NKU and Oakland return most everyone from the leagues tournament and regular season champs, and UIC has lots of young talent. But after that? Green Bay loses 8 of top 9 scorers, and its recruits don't strike me as that good (ok, but not enough to contend as fresh). Wright State is iffy at the point and has just 1 player over 6-4 who has played a college game (and that's Parker Ernsthausen, who's not that good). CSU and YSU are once more rebuilding. IUPUI I don't know much about, but they lose a couple key cogs from a mediocre team. Milwaukee I think could surprise people, but still, they were the last place team last year. We'll see.

Now this tweet from Steve Bell just came through (note the use of the word "horizon") - I guess this could mean anything (Hogan is coming back; Hogan to Oakland; a "major" player coming home to play for us.....; the possibilities are limitless. College transfer news on the horizon that will shock many.

Would Trevor Manuel coming home to one of the instate mid majors be a shock? Is Steve Bell clever enough to use "horizon" as a hint about Detroit or Oakland news? So many questions. :-)

Valpo leaving the league and Jordan leaving Milwaukee certainly seems to have helped the Titans chances for higher finish in the league standings. On paper, the conference doesn't look that strong.

This article sheds more light on the Hogan saga this off season, although most of it we knew or at least surmised. Interesting that it seems as if Hogan could have transferred, he would have. I guess we will never now exactly what had him wanting to leave. amp.detroitnews.com/amp/107154806

I didn't interpret the article that way. Seems pretty straightforward. He announced he was transferring. Some time later, he announced it was UAB. However, his academic situation precluded that from happening. Per the article: The truth is, there never was any big intervention after Hogan hastily sent on that tweet. He was ruled academically ineligible, which also means you’re ineligible for a transfer, per NCAA rules. “When you don’t have eligibility,” said Alexander, “you can’t leave, period. That’s a Division I rule. So, you know, there’s not so much interaction needed in those situations, more than allowing time to let it sink in.”[/u] His announcements on social media showed he wanted to transfer. Per the article, his academic situation made that impossible. As BA said, they didn't have to talk him into staying.

Yes, but my sense remains, and nothing contradicts this, that he wanted to transfer because of his academic situation.
Anyway, he's back and there's no reason to believe he's less than 100% devoted.

[/quote] I'm not aware of anything that definitively contradicts that theory, but I'm sure I haven't read anything that supports it. Agreed that he is likely 100% devoted, now.
