April 4: Here's an updated list. I've removed A.J. West after his commitment to Nevada. I've also removed A.J. Riley (these A.J.s are bad news) who sat out his senior year of HS and has reportedly lost all his D-I offers. I just can't see that we're recruiting him at all. There's a couple other guys on this list I doubt we're still interested in, but not knowing I've left them on. And I've added Ayinde Sprewell, thanks to TJMK for the tip. FYI: AJ Riley verballed to John A Logan JC yesterday

That Riley kid seems to have some issues. We're probably just fine missing out on him for now.
I do wish we could get a verbal commit or two from the guys we're pursuing. Still got over a week before the signing period...

Just remember verbal commitments mean nothing. Kids can always change their minds and we all have seen plenty of that over the years. The signed LOI is all that matters.

I know, but it would be nice to know that some kids were at least LEANING our way. :-)

DePaul has four kids transferring from their program this year and the names are now official. The only one with a Detroit connect is Jodan Price from Country Day, a 6-7 freshman swingman; perhaps he is considering coming back home. Among the others are some kids with size. I have no indication that they would consider Detroit, but hopefully it's something that our team is considering. None of these guys got big minutes with DePaul, but we have had success with transfers in the past. Any player from this group would have to sit out a year, but it wouldn't hurt to get a head start on the 2014-15 season. See their names and particulars in the article below. www.depaulbluedemons.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/040913aab.html

Still got over a week before the signing period... Yeah, it seems he switched schools a couple times in late summer trying to improve his recruiting situation, wound up being declared ineligible, and all his D-I offers dried up. Sounds like a shaky student who was following bad advice. But if he's as good as his early recruiting looked, he'll probably kick butt at the JC and find his way to a D-I program (if he's not a total nitwit).

Just throwing a name out there (maybe just because the signing period is getting close and we're starved for some type of info or new names, so take this with a grain of salt) - Richard Freeman, a 6'8" Forward from Lawrence Central in Indianapolis. I know the staff has been in contact with him, but not sure of the extent of the interest or even his situation (has he qualified? is anybody else interested? skill level?). I've seen his name mentioned a few years ago as one of the top prospects in Indiana, but the stats for this past season didn't look great and there's really not alot of recruiting info out there on him. Maybe our friend Indianapolis knows something about him.

Richard Freeman is a 6'7" slasher with considerable upside. He has scholarship offers from Kent State and Morehead State. A Louisville based scouting service, with 35 years of experience, ranked Freeman among the top prospects in Indiana last spring. kyprephoops.com/1213/May12BolusINBoys.html

Indy, doesn't Lawrence Central have a pretty good rep among high school programs in Indianapolis? Lawrence Central is one of the primary football powerhouse programs in Indiana currently. LC has always had a ton of athletic talent but some of their best basketball players have been frequently recruited by Lawrence North and Cathedral. They're included in a brutal sectional with most of the mega sized premier basketball programs in Indy. Jeremy Hollowell, a freshman at IU this season, and projected as a top 15 first round NBA draft choice in 2014, is from Lawrence Central. Freeman could be a nice recruit for Detroit.

Thanks, Indy. Here are some comments on Paul from the Indian Recruiting Guide. He's rated as the number 42 prospect in the state here. Sounds like a solid prospect. "42. Richard Freeman: 6’7” Power Forward, Lawrence Central H.S. Offers: Interest: Morehead State Nice length and is very athletic. Richard needs to improve his shooting so he can possibly play the “3″ in college, but he has gotten pretty good at driving to the basket from the wing or high post. Disrupts shots defensively and is an okay rebounder. Looks to do a little too much offensively at times, and just hasn’t seemed to put it all together yet. However, there is a lot of upside with him which has drawn a lot of attention." indianarecruitingguide.com/prospect-rankings/class-of-2013/

That's too bad. Seems like we went after him hard and didn't make his final cut.
