It is rumored that this will be announced this week.

Is that because he is being promoted or fired?

I guess we can say hastalavista to JJJr. and Jack Ballantyne.

I actually liked JJJ. I just thought that we did not use him and the other guards properly. Probably why we lost CA. A real shame.

I guess we can say hastalavista to JJJr. and Jack Ballantyne. If that happens, it would leave us with a returning scholarship roster of: Blackshear McFolley Long Eichler and possibly, but probably not, Tariq Jones. And I don't think it's guaranteed that McFolley and Blackshear would stay. Add to that a relatively late hire for a coach--not super late, but not in front of the curve, either--making late recruiting tough. Wow.

Triple J does lots of things well and was a good recruit for us. But the coaching of the talent was just atrocious. I still think had they done the obvious--a lineup of Hogan, Prince, Chatman, Allen, and McFolley to start the year, with JJJ getting 15-20 minutes a game--things might have come out quite a bit different. Remember those reports that we led Akron in the "secret scrimmage" by more than 20 points? That may have crushed this team, too. Probably all the guards just had hot shooting nights, but the coaches convinced themselves that the mini-guard lineup would work. Might have been better to have been clobbered in that game.

Maybe we shouldn't talk about Triple J in the past tense.

The lineup you mentioned should've been our starting 5 from day one, with JJJr., T.Jones and Blackshear getting the rest of the minutes off the bench. I know that all of the players are adults, but someone...perhaps the team trainer should've been monitoring Hogans weight. I'm not sure about how they do it at UofD, but I know that UofM provides their athletes with a summer workout program and monitors their weight at least once a month. I would assume these are all things that Alexander would've brought with him from UofM.

Let's.
Not counting the incoming recruits Corey Allen (signed) and Isaiah Jones (verbaled), Bacari inherited:
Chris Jenkins Jared Williams Matthew Grant Jaleel Hogan Aaron Foster-Smith Josh McFolley Gerald Blackshear
He also inherited Patrick Robinson, still a walk-on, and Jalen Gibson and Paris Bass. I won't blame him at all for Gibson and Bass leaving the team; I doubt even Ray could have kept them.

Hogan's academic issues and his conditioning issues stand out more than anything else (outside of the win/loss record) when I think of the BA era. I would expect there to at least be a conditioning/workout program provided by the staff for the players to follow during the off season. Not sure how Hogan got so out of shape.

With this rumor that JJ Sr will be out...I suspect he didn't make a cut in the coaching process? Perhaps at some point Vowels just leveled with him that he won't be the permanent? My idle speculation but may be why this is being talked about without (1) someone else announced as HC, (2) JJ announcing he's leaving and going to do XYZ.
I'll wait on speculating on what players will stay or go. That seems like SUCH a huge wildcard and dependent on each individual circumstance and situation. It does take 2 to tango when a player leaves, especially if that player is going to have to sit out a year its a commitment on the inbound school to have the scholly tied up like that.
