The list of schools showing interest in Al Eichelberger continues to grow, and CMU has offered. Still no true high major offers yet (unless you count Utah), but with 16 months and a full season before even the early signing period, you can be sure that those offers will come. Of others we've reportedly offered, I am guessing that we are not seriously in the running for Spellman, Moyer, and Bridges; McLean and Akin I don't know but I'd be doubtful. Justin Turner's stock is already rising, picking up a Toledo offer last week, and with scouts now saying "mid-major plus," (I guess that's what, Mountain West? Atlantic 10?). Boy would duo of Turner and Eichelberger be sweet! Senior Jaleel Hogan yanks down the board, hits sophomore point Turner on the outlet, push it up with Al on the finish... They'd have guys chest thumping from Ren Cen to 8 Mile. But with lots of time and 5 or more scholarships open, I'm sure we'll see a bunch more offers. Omari Spellman visited Seton Hall, Rutgers, and Villanova just this week. Yeah, we're probably not getting him. I hope we can land Big Al. We need a guy to come here from one of the Saginaw Valley schools and have a lot of success so more kids from that area start to look at us as a serious option right out of high school.

Article on Al Eich: highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/article/-2106674491135966003/saginaw-high-center-algevon-eichelberger-hopes-to-enhance-abilities-divsion-1-basketball-offers/Some highlights: "“We’re all still trying to figure out what his position will be in college. We don’t know how he’s going to grow. He’s 6-6 but has a 7-2 wingspan. He’s still a defensive presence in the post no matter who he matches up with.” Eichelberger’s development was delayed last season thanks to a knee injury, which limited his mobility during the high school season. "Winston is asking Eichelberger to become a shooting threat away from the basket." ... "Eichelberger, who carries a 3.8 GPA, says he will not commit until his senior season. His favorite programs are Kentucky and Duke. “I look to see how the coach develops players,” Eichelberger said. “It’s not just how they develop players for the NBA. It’s how they develop players for after college, what they go on to do after they graduate.” "Winston believes Eichelberger will thrive as an NCAA Division I college basketball player. “He’s a great kid, a smart kid, a hard worker,” Winston said. “He’s definitely a Division 1 player. It’s just real important that he finds the right fit for him. Some thoughts: 1. To date, "his favorite programs ... Duke and Kentucky" aren't recruiting him, but that could change. 2. At this point, he's still looking at offers only from mid-majors. Well, Utah has offered too, I guess they count as high major. Of course, that is likely to change over the next 15 months. 3. Right now, Al's body is a bit short for his skill set, at least at the high major level. And that says mid-major is a better fit. That could change, too, either as he stretches his skills or his height. 4. He still seems like a great fit for UD.

Smart for Big Al to wait until his senior year to commit. A decision like that, you need to be sure.
Must be nice to be Duke and Kentucky. You don't even have to recruit kids to be their number choice. :-)
Agreed that he's a great fit for U of D, and right out of high school rather than after two or three years of things not working out at a high major. If he continues to develop, he'd make an impact from Day one with the Titans. Even outside of how he could help us, I'd hate to see him get used as practice fodder for two years plus at a high major, i.e. Percy Gibson.

Added Ty Groce per a good source. IPS Hoops really likes him: "6'6" 2016 small forward Ty Groce (Ypsilanti Lincoln, MI./Michigan Warriors 15u) Long, athletic, basketball IQ, skilled, strong grades, small forward on the next level, plays the two in high school, versatile, can be a top five player in Michigan, solid all-around player with a developing perimeter game, solid guard skills for his size, shoots it well from the perimeter and in off the bounce, very good passer, sometimes too unselfish, good athlete, solid rebounder." Steve Bell ranks him just 24th in the Michigan Class of '16, but it's early, and that's a very strong class. Prep Spotlight ranks him #19. Reportedly Groce made an unofficial visit to Calihan this year to take in a game and talk. Here's an article on reported Titan target Ty Groce, who plays for my old high school, Ypsilanti Lincoln. He looked like a solid player last year in his first varsity season. I'll be watching this year to see what kind of improvement he makes. nextuprecruits.com/2014/06/03/2016-ty-groce-just-getting-started/

Yeah, if they can get Jackson to attend their new school, it is instant credibility with top players around the country. I think the big danger is that a young man like that is already being used. I mean, he and his family have to decide what is best for them, but you worry that the kid is being sold a bad bill of goods.
