I think that the fans at the last game were pretty energized. I know that I came home a little hoarse. The crowds will come back after word gets out about what is going on at UDM. Unfortunately, we are not yet getting much love on local television.

From the part of Coaching Chagnes that did not want us to hire Zeigler.

Interesting. Doesn't surprise me that Alabama would want to interview him.
So, now we have two different sources identifying two different HL coaches for the 'Bama job.

Hmmmm. I don't particularly love the sound of this. He obviously has a ton of ties to Alabama (went there, was an Assistant there, the UAB stint) that it wouldn't be a wholly unreasonable move. Then again perhaps he's grown fond of Michigan winters?? And a move with his son(s) would be too disruptive even to go to power school?
He could also see it as not the right time in his career. And, as Commish points out that since most coaching changes don't end well eventually Coach Davis could have a negative finale at his beloved alma mater (a la Bacari / JJSr).

I was worried about something like this. Our poor attendance at games could send a signal that this job will be a lot tougher than Davis expected. I hope he is in for the duration of his contract and announces quickly that he has no interest in leaving and is here to build this program. It frustrates me that we have UD Alums and proclaimed fans who say they want the program to succeed but at the same time sit back and seem to be sending a message that they need to be sold that this is a winning program, before they will extend full support. Sort of like they have been losers for so long that they are afraid to tie their support to something that might lose thus stamping themselves as even bigger losers. Where did all the fans go and how can we get them to remember the great excitement of Calihan and get them back to do it again? Those great times and memories can't all be lost to dementia. There still has to be enough left out there to start packing the Hall again.

Everyone chill out. I can confirm that the next coach at ‘Bama will be Rick Pitino.

As we learned from our own search last year, lots of sources have lots of information. Some of the information turns out to be accurate. Some turns out to be partly accurate. The rest turns out to be inaccurate.
This sounds like a leak of part of a list of coaches that the AD or the search committee would like to contact to see if they are interested. Also, I see that the list includes Rick Pitino. There could be a Tuscaloosa Mole yanking some chains here. Or it could simply be a leak designed to soothe alumni by disclosing that the search committee is considering some recognizable names with lots of experience.

Something very curious came out in an SI story today that was about the LSU scandal and potential issues they are facing with their coach perhaps arranging deals for players. www.si.com/college-basketball/2019/04/04/lsu-will-wade-suspension-investigation-news?utm_source=twitter.com&xid=socialflow_twitter_si&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sinowTo save you from reading it all, this nugget was in there about Coach Mike Davis.. "Meanwhile, in an email sent to Alleva and deputy athletic director Verge Ausberry, an agent from GIG Sports, which represents first-year Detroit Mercy head coach Mike Davis, conveyed the coach’s interest in the potential LSU vacancy. The email was sent just 90 minutes after the school announced Wade’s suspension." This would have been on March 7, a day after we got bounced in the HL tourney by NKU. Is Coach Davis not pleased with his time in Detroit already? Did he take the job here just to stay employed and wait for a bigger/better gig to open up? An awful lot of smoke right now with these rumors, then has be wondering if there is any actual fire to it all. I'd be quite disappointed especially because he's done some great things for the program in the 10 months he's been on board. Ugh, another off season of idle speculation and rumor - and my apologies if this comes across as gossipy, etc as I don't want to feed the beast of the gossip machine.

It was in SI so it's not like you are repeating something you heard on the street. :-) It's worth mentioning. I don't know if I believe it. Could be true that an email was received from that agency, but it could also be true that a representative sent it out on his own without consulting Davis, just to test the waters. I think if Coach Davis just wanted to stay employed until a better job came up, he would have just stayed at Texas Southern. If it is true, and he asked In a part of that article I read, it described Davis as a coach who took IU to the championship game but then slipped into mediocrity. I disagree with that characterization. Davis was at IU six years and made the NCAA tourney four times and the NIT once. Wouldn't call that mediocre, even given IU's history. His six years there were better than Knight's last six.

I’m not as quick to overlook this as Sam. True, perhaps the agent contacted LSU without the consent of Mike Davis. After all, agents typically get paid a % of their talent’s salary. If I were the agent I’d probably be shopping around my clients just the same (unless they specifically told me not to).
But, unfortunately for Davis, there have now been at least two rumors about him seeking to leave UDM. I think in order for him to keep the fan base supportive of him and to recruit athletes he needs to publicly refute these rumors immediately.
Also, how stupid (or careless) is the agent? Never communicate with people at public universities about sensitive information via email. That stuff gets FOIA’d all the time! Pick up the phone FFS.

The Coaching Changes site Tweets: “Mike Davis upon hearing his agent emailed LSU Admin on their university emails and it becomes public record, isn’t this one of the reasons you have an agent to avoid publicly chasing jobs and have deniability? ” accompanied by a GIF image banner saying “Do I need to slap you in the face?”

Don't like this at all. Davis did not seem happy the last month of the season, to be sure. I think he was tired of the lack of talent, the lack of fan support, and Horizon refereeing. I do hope he's at Detroit for the long haul.
