My thought is where there's smoke, there may be fire. If Davis isn't going to refute the report, and if he's going to sniff around every "higher level" opening, then all we have is a coach who's using us. If that's the case, I hope he finds another job soon. It will set the program back again, but it seems like we're just delaying the inevitable. I'd rather just move on and start the rebuild with someone else who wants to be here...

There is a chance his agent is slightly overeager and floating his name out there to different openings. But at this point, there is enough out there in the news that he should indeed refute it and/or get his agent to cool it.
I'd be surprised if he would do much moving around in the near term, mostly because that would yo-yo Antoine's career and development which I'm sure Coach would recognize isn't in his son's best interest. If Coach wanted to be very selfish and only focused on #1, he would continue to mold the program around Antoine in a way to best showcase Antoine's skills for the next level.

I am an avid supporter of Davis and I kind of was looking at him as wanting to build the program to being solid and then having his son take over the Detroit job as his sons first D1 job. I still am naïve enough to believe there is another Kaline or Yzerman left in the sports world. My question would be have his wife and daughter moved to Michigan or made plans. If not then we have a problem. We do not need a band aid we need this wound cauterized.

I think our head coach owes us an explanation for his agent's email.
That said, I cannot believe a competent agent would send such an email to anyone at a public university because all those emails are discoverable under the Freedom of Information Act. That's what happened here.
However, since the gist of the article is that Wade will likely return to LSU now that his role in the federal criminal probe has been clarified, the chances of our head coach ending up at LSU are low.

The fact is that if he doesn't want to be here then he shouldn't be here! I for one am not appreciative of the lip service. Does anyone know if his wife and daughter have moved to the area? If he has resistance from his family then he will not stay. Are the Davis's becoming a part of the community or are they using it? I have a few cousins who were avid sports fans but no longer will even watch on TV. If they come over I have to turn the game off. How much $ is enough? If a man has no principals then he should not be trusted and we should not have him in a position to influence young men. Again I think this is on Vowels and he should be addressing the situation. Maybe there is nothing and it is an aggressive agent trying to do his job but I do think we and our recruits need to know!

UP pretty much nailed it. All I know is that coach and/or Vowels better address these rumors soon.
Also, coach better have some damn good recruits signed and one hell of a speech at the May luncheon or this fan base is going to turn faster than a tuna club sandwich sitting in a car on a 100 degree day.

Thanks Mole! I will not ever not be a Titan Fan. I just might be a lot less avid. I might drive the 1000+ trip to try and get some answers. I was thinking of getting down to the Titan Athletic appreciation dinner on May 17 but the luncheon might be a better forum for some straight forward questions and hopefully we can get some straight forward answers. I for one was displeased with Davis's statement that he could turn the program in less than a year and thought he did as well as could be expected. I am looking forward to a vast improvement this season. Hopefully the team is hard at work strengthening themselves and bonding and hopefully our coaching staff is as all in as they expect us to be.

Coach actually doesn't owe an answer to anyone regarding this report, other than his boss. If he's staying, he and his staff will make sure recruits and decision makers know he's not going anywhere. If he wants to make a public statement, that's his right, but most people in that situation and occupation don't spend time responding to reports about other jobs until the move is official. There were lots of reports out there about Beilein to the Pistons last year; I don't recall him making a comment about it one way or another until reports came out saying he was staying at Michigan.
For now, this whole thing is just noise. I'm not worked up about it either way. Remember, last year at this time, some people actually thought the Titans were in pursuit of Rick Pitino.

Respectfully, it’s a different circumstance when Sports Illustrated leaks and confirms that your agent contacted another team about a job.
Now that you mention it, I do vaguely remember some rumblings about the Titans pursuing Rick Pitino last year. But I forget how all of that started.

I always appreciate your big picture, even keeled and well thought out opinions. You're probably right in what your saying. My aggravation has to do a lot with the way the season finished after a good start to conference play and some major impatience and disappointment with the status of recruiting. I'm not convinced yet, and now we have this email issue. I'm willing to give Davis 3 years (2 more) to turn this thing around, but we just seem to be trending in the wrong direction

Sam is the voice of reason the Titan fan base needs, but doesn't deserve. haha. Have a nice weekend gentlemen!

I'm not convinced yet Hey, I'm impatient, too. I had hoped we'd have a better idea of what is happening with recruiting by now. It's been awhile since we had a normal recruiting cycle, but if I remember correctly ( ) we generally have another verbal commitment by now. We need some good news.

If I remember correctly the Pistons were looking and mentioned Beilein as someone their search party had an interest in talking to. I think when a coach has his agent looking for a new job less than a year into his present 4-5 yr. contract, there is a problem. The response as to the stupidity of agent rests on the shoulders of the coach. I would love to be recruiting against someone who was trying to leave a program in turmoil and I would carry the SI article in my right pocket. I was thinking a quick and direct response would be necessary for the recruits and their decision makers.

The reports were that the Pistons and Beilein were in two way communication about the job. Friends who are Wolverine fans were legitimately concerned. Beilein didn't publicly respond, which is smart because you don't want to set a precedent of responding to every report out there.
I would bet that Davis and his staff have already made the necessary contacts to the recruits and decision makers they are targeting.

Again, two weeks ago, on March 24, President Garibaldi stated on the WXYZ TV show that we have 6 scholarship openings and have two players already committed to fill those openings. One of those is likely Jamal Pink.
The email issue occurred 4 weeks ago. Davis has stated publicly that he is looking to add some experienced bigs and wings to the roster. Our school will not make any announcement about recruits until the NLI signing period begins. Unless a player we are recruiting makes a public announcement, we will not know their identities. Remember that not all players have Twitter accounts. Finally, most recruiting news will begin to leak out after the Final Four ends. The fact that there are no leaks now does not mean that we are having problems recruiting.
Coach Davis is scheduled to speak at the Titan Club Appreciation event on May 17th. In 11 days, players can sign NLI's. We will find out shortly about who will be filling some or all of the 6 open spots.
Basically, I agree with sam's perspective on this issue.
