Since the new staff is likely to be announced soon (we hope) - here's a thread for discussion. I'll fill in the first name (besides Davis's son) - Will Finch. I'm thinking Finch is the DOBO (Director of Basketball Operations), a role he formerly held for Coach McCallum. Here's the announcement when Ray hired him (Note the Indiana connection that ties everything together): detroittitans.com/news/2009/8/3/MBB_0803093756.aspxFinch tweets:

I like that staff, and I am surprised that we landed Strickland. Strick's been a high major assistant, and this looks like a good opportunity for him to get back into coaching after his stint as an assistant at USF. Dildy has head coach experience and lots of contacts in the Midwest. So far, so good.
Note: Strick's son Tai is a freshman at Wisconsin. He was a three star recruit out of high school. I expect him to remain a Badger.

Strickland says that he has had conversations with Davis, but that he has not accepted as assistant's job with us.

Sam is probably to modest to admit it, but privately, off the Board, he's been all over Dildy as an assistant coach for quite awhile. Throwing away his poor head coaching record at perennial loser and borderline D1 Chicago State (he's not being hired to be the head coach here anyways!), Dildy is well respected in the Chicagoland area and the Midwest in general and should open up a fertile recruiting area for our team

Agree with Sam's opinion here on and off-board. Plus Dildy was an assistant to Mike Davis in his first year at UAB before leaving to take the assistant's job at UIC when Collins was coaching there. Assistant positions at Ole Miss, Auburn, DePaul and Ball State.

Love the Dildy hire. And if Strickland ends up coming that’d be awesome. It is confusing why Strickland denied the claims of coming here so hard. But we’ll see.

People I know in Chicago think very highly of him. I expect him to have a positive impact on the program. I'm generally in favor of having at least one assistant coach on staff who has been a head coach before. Hiring a solid staff that can recruit and develop players is arguably the most important thing a coach has to get right.

I cant vouch for the source, but this was just tweeted by someone named Coach Treal who appears to be involved in the Illinois prep basketball scene: Sam and I were noting the difference in the staffs. Experience, Bacari's Staff Bacari Alexander, 0 years head coach, 15 years assistant Jermaine Jackson, 0 years head coach, 1 year assistant Canaan Chatman, 0 years head coach, 0 years assistant Pete Kahler, 0 years head coach, 0 years assistant (did have 3 years as video coordinator, and 3 as Director Basketball Ops) Totals: 0 years head coaching, 16 years as assistant, with only head coach having more than 1 yr experience. Davis's Staff: Mike Davis: 18 years head coach, 6 years assistant (plus prior years in D-II and minor leagues) Tracy Dildy: 8 years head coach, 16 years assistant Mike Davis, Jr: 0 years head coach, 6 years assistant Rod Strickland: 0 years head coach, 6 years assistant Totals: 26 yrs head coaching, 34 years assistant, with all assistants having at least 6 years experience. There's just a different feel this time around, a sense of competence. Let's hope that it's real and not just a feeling.

For someone who's rumored to be joining the coaching staff, Rod Strickland sure isn't acting like it. Multiple pictures of him on-line as he's in Singapore this week for an NBA Junior All Star event

The program is in good hands, I haven't felt that way in a couple of years.

I agree, most definitely on the latter. I hope we do hire Strickland--I think he'd be high profile, which we can use, have a legitimacy with top recruits, and he has serious experience as an assistant.
