I don't think Strickland is coming. However,I have confidence that coach Davis will make a solid hire. The program is in good hands, I haven't felt that way in a couple of years. I agree, most definitely on the latter. I hope we do hire Strickland--I think he'd be high profile, which we can use, have a legitimacy with top recruits, and he has serious experience as an assistant. You know I am in favor of bringing a DePaul great to the staff, but ,in my opinion, even without the Blue Demon pedigree Strick would make a great addition to the staff. Just as I was with Mike Davis, I will be pleasantly surprised if we land Rod.

I saw Rod Strickland was in the stands at the Big3 championship in Brooklyn yesterday night..... I think it's time for Davis to announce the coaching staff. Two months is long enough to figure it out - and for once, no excuses about working through endless background checks or budgets/money issues or gaining a recruiting advantage by not announcing coaches yet. School is starting Monday. The staff should be officially in place and a players should be in the classroom.

Eric Devendorf joins the staff as special assistant to the head coach. I wonder whether this was going to be Rod Strickland's position on the staff?

Welcome to the D, Eric! It is interesting the seemingly larger, more seasoned and prominent staff Coach Davis has assembled. Alot of positives and optimist to glean from the moves.
I will note that as a big ACC hoops fan, especially for my Tar Heels, I just could NOT stand Devendorf as a player!! As the article notes, he was so cocky, talked SOOOO much trash, had the swagger, etc. He also won and balled out all the time adding to my disdain. BUT, that was his player persona and I've seen enough things over the years that showed he's actually a good dude.

Devendorf will be a great addition to Titan staff. Young, passionate about game.....Michigander by birth...New Yorker by choice. Still has game as evidenced by his performance with Boeheim"s Army this summer in $1,000,000 tournament.

Devendorf played like Dennis Rodman. When he was your opponent, you hated him. When he was on your team, you loved how he played. The mixture of him coaching Josh McFolley could be downright incendiary ... in the positive sense. Eric D went to the hoop with no fear.

From Twitter, some rumors
My opinion, if the above is true - why the hell is it taking so long to hire coaches? It's been months and you haven't yet hired the guy you originally said you were bringing with you from TSU? I guess there's no need to hurry, as long as You finally figure it out by the Wayne State exhibition 🙁

It does seem like it is taking a long time for the official announcements of the coaching staff to be made, but at least it hasn't stopped the worked. We added a lot of players to the roster in a short time, got out a bunch of offers for the class of 2019 and beyond, and we seem to be doing the day to day stuff that the program needs. My feeling is that we'll never get an explanation on why it took so long for things to be official. On the other hand, there are still moves being made in the assistant coaching ranks around the country in D1. And just about all of them had a head coach in place before we did.
I'm just getting restless waiting for the season to start. Maybe we'll get a verbal commitment for the class of 2019 soon to give me something else to focus on.

On his Twitter page, Devendorf's indicates his title is "Special Assistant to Head Coach" at Detroit Mercy Basketball.

Not every person on the staff of the men's basketball program is considered to be a coach.
For example, at Syracuse, Devendorf was technically an assistant strength and conditioning coach designated for basketball. In addition to an "Associate Head Coach" and two assistants, 'Cuse has a DOBO, a Video Coordinator, Director of Strength & Conditioning, and an office recruiting coordinator on its men's BB coaching staff.
At UNLV, when Andre LaFleur was rumored to be a candidate here for the head coaching job, he was one of 3 assistant coaches. UNLV also had a "Special Assistant to the Head Coach," a Director of Basketball Operations, a separate Director of Player Personnel, a paid "Video Coordinator," and a program assistant, Brandon Jenkins, who is JJ's cousin and who works at JJ's community center in the off-season. (Aside: you might look at UNLV as a possible destination for JJJ and/or Ballantyne next season.)
It looks like Davis has received a commitment from the university to have a staff more consistent with the bigger time programs, three assistant coaches, a DOBO, a Special Assistant, a Video Coordinator, and maybe one other person.
So, you could see a staff something like this:
Head Coach: Mike Davis Associate Head Coach: Tracy Dildy Assistant Coach: Keith LeGree Assistant Coach: Mike Davis, Jr. Director of BB Ops: Tim Waller Video Coordinator: Will Finch Special Assistant to HC: Eric Devendorf
And maybe one more slot for Brumfield or some other person.
So, technically, Devendorf is not an assistant coach, but as a special assistant to the Head Coach, he will oversee certain aspects of the program.
At least, this is how I'm reading the Twitter leaves and trying to fit them in with the operational structures of other, larger and more successful programs. Garibaldi and Vowels have taken a big step forward with this apparent staff expansion.
