Excerpt from the articleFreshman of the Week Antoine Davis | Detroit Mercy | Freshman | Birmingham, Ala. | Guard The rookie put himself on the national stage in the first week of play averaging 31.0 points and posting back-to-back 30-point games on the road, while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc. He started his collegiate career with a team-high 32 points with six triples at Western Michigan, the most points ever by a Titan freshman in his debut and the second-most points ever by a Titan in their first game. He followed that up with a team-high 30 points and another six 3-pointers at Temple. He is first Titan to post back-to-back 30-point outings since Jon Goode did it during the 2007-08 campaign.

I like those shooting percentages, and hope they continue. It's one thing to put up stats, its another thing to do it efficiently as AD has done thus far.

One of things I loved about Terry Duerod and John Long were how efficient they were in getting their points. Lightening shot 54% from the floor as a senior. Sweet Due shot .547 and .525 his last two years as a Titan. I think as Davis gets more acclimated to the D1 game and gets better talent around him, his efficiency will stay at a high level.

It's hard to overstate how important Antoine Davis already is, and can be, to this program. It's not only that he helps us win games--imagine where we'd be without him--but he's exciting, and notable. Ray McCallum was a super player for us, and I think underappreciated, but that merely illustrates the problem--he never grabbed the spotlight or the imagination like Davis already has. He was a great student, a great player, an exemplary Titan, but he just didn't have the on-court charisma. If Davis pours in another 30 or 40 against EMU on Saturday, I wonder if we won't see a little attendance pick up for the Wednesday game against Kent State as the curious start to come out. The last couple games have been great, but this is not a team that's going to go 25-6 this year. Until we do that--hopefully soon---Antoine brings attention and excitement to the program. He already gets discussed on opponents' on-line forums--they were talking about him before the game on Cal and BGSU boards-- and they're talking about him around the HL on fan boards. He's starting to get tweets from national media. I wasn't able to be at Calihan on Monday and Tuesday, but listening on the radio, you could hear the crowd of 1300 erupt with each three. It reminded me of Terry Duerod so long ago. Yes, it's a much smaller crowd to be sure, but as they might say at Notre Dame, wake up the echoes! it's a faint reminder of what our smelly old gym can sound like, and it gives a target to move toward. Coach Ray's best teams, in 2012 and 2013, played some really exciting ball, up-tempo, with a lot of offensive weapons, and the exciting Doug Anderson finishing off breaks, but never got the buzz Davis is already starting to get. For the first time in years I think I could say to a friend "why don't you come to the Detroit game with me... ?" without a touch of embarrassment or explanation, because I can finish "... and see this kid Antoine Davis?" I don't want to put a bunch of pressure on an 18 year old to save a venerable, battered basketball program, and yes, five games in it is way too early to coronate him as such, but Davis is potentially the most important player for this program since Dave DeBusschere. Not the best, necessarily (although he appears to be pretty good ), but the most important.

Now, you won't be able to read this unless you subscribe and use the 7 day trial. You (meaning all readers of this forum) should read it. I feel free in quoting this paragraph of the article because the reporter tweeted the same thing on Monday. Antoine Davis is the personification of his father’s fortified beliefs and, as a result, Detroit Mercy has the best freshman in America who no one has heard of.This article also compares him to a certain alum of Davidson who is now a pretty good NBA player. I have a good feeling here that if Antoine continues to do well, he won't be all that unknown by the national media come February.

I'm not sure who this "Antonie" Davis is, but if we could get him and Antoine Davis on the court at the same time, it would be awesome.
This is from a You Tube site with the stated goal to "make the BEST player discovery network around so that you, the fan, can be the first to know about these elite athletes." At the least, it's a nice highlight reel.

Very cool - I've long been a big Willie Green fan, and it seems he continues to connect and give back to the program.

So Antoine averaged 28.5 points in two games this week, and they gave Freshman of the Week to Oakland's Braden Norris, who had 14 points and 8 assists in 1 game this week (an Oakland loss). Norris looks like a nice player and had a real nice game against Xavier, but something tells me they're looking for excuses to spread the wealth around a little.
