District Finals are tonight for Class A. Line up of games that include alot of local heated/hated matchups of teams -> www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/02/28/michigan-boys-basketball-state-tournament-fridays-district-finals/3017679002/So far in the opening rounds its generally been all chalk with the expected teams prevailing, with exceptions of #8 Flint Carmen Ainsworth having a brutal loss (they missed a wide open layup at the buzzer that would have won it), #9 Cass was knocked off, and #5 AA Pioneer fell. Fresh Phenom Emoni Bates & Ypsi Lincoln are still alive. Are these the last few games we'll see him as a Michigan resident before going semi-pro, I mean going the prep school route? Detroit Renaissance put a bit of a scare into UDJ in the last round, but they have a fairly wide open path at this point to the Final Four -- that is the earliest they would even play a ranked team (Probably #3 Muskegon). The same is true with Clarkston who is #2 and won't face ranked team until the Quarterfinals.

Clarkston won't play a ranked team (or unranked team for that matter) until the 2019-2020 season.

Completely correct, my bad in overlooking that. I had somehow missed that they got knocked out on the first night by meager Roch Adams. They seemed too young to make a big run this year, but they had such a dominant regular season it seemed anything was possible. Big games this evening as the next round commences.

Don't forget - you can catch two Division 1 quarterfinal games at Calihan tomorrow (Tuesday, March 12).
First up - Ypsi Lincoln and future Titan phenom Emoni Bates takes on Detroit King. Then, UDJesuit takes on Roseville in the 2nd game (Scheduled for 730pm).

I was determined to go to this game, because I graduated from Ypsi Lincoln and I love the idea of my school playing at Calihan. Unfortunately for my basketball plans, I just found out two of my nephews and one of my nieces needs a babysitter tomorrow starting at 3:30! If any of you guys go, have a great time and send up a cheer from me for my Lincoln Railsplitters. Thanks.

I'm heading to the games Sam, although probably will get there around half time of the Lincoln / King game since my main interest is UD Jesuit. I'm very curious to see Bates in person. But, it'd also be good to see a DPS team in the semi finals at Breslin, so I'm torn on the outcome. PS - that's great of you to be be such a good uncle and watch the kiddos instead of seeing your squad at Calihan!

If Lincoln loses to King, I will be pulling for King at Breskin. Smart to get a look at Bates now, because I think he will be playing at an out of state prep school soon. Also, Go Cubs!

Pretty wild day yesterday at Calihan. For the first game, Calihan was filled to the rafters (not hyperbole) for the future Titan Emoni Bates show. There were several photos and videos from the game online but here's one I could quickly find Never in my 30 years of coming to UDM games have I seen it that full including the late 90's with Rashad was lighting it up (and winning loads of games).
I missed the entire first game due to work, but got to campus right when it had ended. Calihan was still 80% full for the start of the UD Jesuit vs Roseville game but the crowd slowly thinned out as the Cubs put on a silly dominating display in a route 91-54. Roseville came in with a gaudy record at 20-4 but just was outclassed from the tip by the talented seniors and depth of UDJ. I'm still amazed that PG Julian Dozier doesn't have many more mid-major offers.
Big Ten Play of the Year and 1st Team All American Cassius Winston was a the game behind the Cubs bench, and took a million photos with people at half time. (his brother is a senior on the team). I also spotted Lindsay Hunter on press row (his son is a senior on UDJ). And I saw Robert Vowels making some rounds. I'm sure there were a host of other notable people at both games.
Side note on UDM operations... - Parking was actually very efficient considering just how many people were down there. Salute on that. No big line to get on campus, nor to get a ticket & into Calihan - As I sat down about 10 minutes before tip of the 2nd game, I heard that concessions were completely sold out. That's a disappointment - Finally, I love that we host these games as well as the Catholic Leagues. Its gotta be a tradition that continues on - not that there is an obvious alternative site including the suburbia glaretop

Thanks for the insight, TTH. It is great for Calihan to host games like this, and I hope it continues. Would love to see us regularly pull crowds half that size for Titan games. Been a long time since we did that.
The parking logistics seem to have been handled well, but it is amazing to me that they ran out of food at the concession stands.
I am super excited about my alma mater beating King and playing in the semis. We won the conference when I was playing at Lincoln, and we've won a district title or two, but this is rarified air for us. Go Splitters.

Bates had 31 points and 14 rebounds as Lincoln beat Howell to advance to the State Championship game. I wish I had my old Railsplitter basketball uniform. Not that I could fit into it, but I could hang it up in the den or something. Go SPLITTERS !!!
