If you think about it, it makes sense for any league in that situation to just let the team play. Excluding a team from the conference tourney does nothing but totally piss off one of your members. And the odds of a team faced with a ban mustering the talent and strength to win the conference tourney are close to nil anyway.

Then it should be whatever the league by-laws say. Not sure if those are public.

The Horizon needs to quit monkeying around with the tournament. Pick a format, pick a venue, and let it be for at least 5 years.

The Horizon needs to quit monkeying around with the tournament. Pick a format, pick a venue, and let it be for at least 5 years. Welcome to the Horizon League. Where the brackets are decided 9 months in advance and the host city doesn’t matter.

I don’t think the Horizone is necessarily an authoritative source.

The article does say “eligible” teams. The league’s subtle way of saying we don’t play if we don’t win the appeal.
Kind of upsetting, but playing in the league tourney would be little consolation if the ban sticks anyway.

FYI - the press release from UDM did leave out the “eligible teams” part that is in the official HL press release.

Here is a little known codicil to the Faber (I mean Horizon League) will.
6.a.1(j)(z): And if Detroit Mercy loses its APR appeal but wins the regular season, then 3 teams or maybe just 1 team (if we are feeling bad on HL seeding day)could get a bye into the semifinals with anywhere from 1 to 4 first round games being played at on-campus sites. But if the Points-For versus Points-Allowed differential is negative for any higher seeded team or if the home court of any higher-seeded team can blind TV viewers who are not using solar eclipse protective goggles, then Commissioner LeCrone will throw all schools into a hat for a random draw to be conducted on the park bench outside of the HL offices. The drawing will be audited by Arthur Anderson and modeled on the NBA lottery draft.
6.a.1.(j)(z)(1): If that doesn't work, then the remaining 9 teams will play a free-for-all on the ice at the Farmer's Coliseum in between the two minor league hockey games that are scheduled for the same dates as the 2020 HL tournament. No HL playoff team shall be permitted to use any walrus to defend the goal.

I know I have been railing on the Horizon League for over 5 years now and stated we would be better off in just about any other league but it sure seems to me that the League is in a free fall with no bottom in sight.
