Coach Davis had a few words for Kampe during the post game hand shake, anybody know what that was about? I don't know, but after listening to the podcast I want to be at Oakland next year and the following years as we develop into being Davis's team and players. I think the rivalry will heat up big time. The will be no lost love between those two coaches. I stated to many at the start of the year that Antoine's year will be affected by the ability of the league to protect a star player. By protection I mean the referees should do everything to be sure that the "star" is not subject to a lot of targeting by other teams. Let them do everything "legally" possible to stop him, but no persistent infringement of the rules to wear him down. The HL referees have failed miserably. Why the HL office has allowed this to happen is unfathomable to me. The league has a player who could deliver a tremendous amount of national media attention and increase the visibility of the league. What is not to like about that. Total failure by HL administration.

They are calling fouls for hitting the 3 point shooter in the Syracuse-Duke game. And when the game is close.

Postgame interview with Coach Davis. I could've done without seeing that interview, to be honest. Didn't gain much insight other than "nobody did anything that was practiced" and "AD is one of the best players in college". Thanks for posting though.

I love the Coach's passion. His comments about Antoine, who is ranked by CBS Sports as one of the top 10 freshman in the nation, were in response to a specific question asked by a reporter about Oakland's defense.

I get that the question was asked. I just noticed that 80% of the 7+ minute interview was spent complaining that his son doesn't get enough calls. Right or wrong (and he is right), it can be a bad look to some people. If I were in charge of referees in college basketball, I'd not allow the superstar treatment for any individual player... our guy included. That said, I think it's evident that AD gets the short stick compared to some other bigger names out there. In my opinion, it's worth pointing out but it's not worth a 5 minute rant following a blowout in which our star didn't exactly play his best.

Valid points raised here -- have we regressed or at least stop developing as a team as the season has wore on in confernece play?
It has to be a YES. But also...teams have scouted us and (a) figured out how to attack our zone (i.e. we have no big men so teams keying in down low), (b) figured out how to contain AD on offense (with the HL version of 'Jordan rules').
While teams have adjusted to us, we haven't countered to that and developed further to our zone being weaker and AD getting mugged all over the court. Perhaps this is where we see the overall lack of talent on the roster as we couldn't just alter strategies to offset this. Teams saw enough tape on the supporting cast and realized they could send 2,3 guys at AD on the perimeter and it wouldn't really hurt them.
It does seem AD is forcing way more shots than he was earlier in the year. Is he reading the headlines a bit and chasing the Curry record? Is he feeling the pressure to carry the team? Probably a little of both. I suspect losing a bunch of games also causes the lesser habits in all the players to start to come out. I'm not here to bash AD, certainly not. We have had FAR worse offenders in the past decade when it came to guys looking only for their own shot.
Where do we go from here? I think we all see how this season will end, with a whimper and 1st round HL tourny exit. The coaching staff then has to go to work big time in the off season in bringing in some talent, and finding ways to maximize the rare talent that AD is in the context of the overall team.
PS - I would say more about the actual OU game but what fun is that at this point. Also, I couldn't see most of the action on the TV due to the hilariously awful glare from every item in that CYO gym that had a light source.
