12th seeds went 3-1 in the first round, with New Mexico State losing by a point.

Another good day for the Big 10, despite Maryland's tough loss. However, with Ohio State and Iowa as distinct underdogs tomorrow, the three teams that advanced today may be all that reach the Sweet 16. The ACC, OTOH, could advance 5 teams, with Florida State already there, while tomorrow sees Virginia Tech against 12th seeded Liberty, and the three #1 seeds in action. The SEC also has three already in, and a good chance for 4 with Tennessee playing tomorrow. Tennessee plays Iowa, so either the Big 10 or the SEC will get 4 teams in. It's quite easy to see those three conferences taking 12 of the Sweet 16 berths.

Duke vs UCF - WOW, WHAT A FINISH! They're not only good, but they're also lucky.

As a confirmed Duke (and, indeed, all things ACC) hater, a part of me died with Dawkins' missed tip in.

"Purdue and Tennessee shot a combined 5-for-18 from the free-throw line in the first half."
How does that happen???

This would have been a technical foul in the Horizon League.

I found John Beilein's post-game commentary very interesting.
He thinks that future college offenses will have to become more reliant upon isolation basketball because the good defensive teams like Texas Tech, Gonzaga, and Virginia are switching almost every screen.
Texas Tech has now destroyed three teams whose offenses rely upon quick ball movement to get players open. Florida State plays a similar defense.
Beilein now thinks that the answer to recruit players who can get their own shot in isolation or get the ball to the mismatch created by any switch.
Will we now see overall assist totals begin to decline as more teams begin emulate the defenses of these successful teams? Will a zone defense now become even more effective against teams that rely upon isolation players on offense?
Makes for some interesting strategic thinking over the summer.

We're about 90 minutes from the tip off of my favorite night in sports, the Final Four. Game one is Auburn versus Virginia, with the Cavaliers favored by six. (Auburn is playing without their best player, out with injury.) Game two is Michigan State versus Texas Tech, with the Spartans favored by two.
Question one, who are you picking to win tonight?
Question two, in this group of Titan fans, how many of us are rooting for Michigan State? I am, I think there might be one or two more. :-)

That being said, I'm sure Izzo will come up with something, he's a great coach (it kills me to admit that) plus he has a tremendously talented team. I'm not a Michigan native and when they play each other, I root for Michigan over State. 😁 Anyways I'll say Texas Tech vs Virginia in the finale, but what do I know?

Auburn snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Too many bad plays down the stretch, on both ends of the court.
