I love the NCAA post season, but it also signals the last part of the college basketball season and the approach of the seemingly endless wait for the next season to start. College basketball is my favorite sport. I don't follow the NBA like I used to, and I'm not much of a baseball fan outside of enjoying a game or two at Comerica each summer. The Fall feels like a long way off.
Since the Titans are through, my focus has shifted on the off season and things I hope to see. I'm interested in what is on the wish list for the rest of the Titan faithful. For me, it's the following:
1. Quick decisions on who is coming back. Are any players considering transferring? If so, the sooner they make that known, the better. Seems like Cole Long is heading out, based on Senior Night, but what other non-seniors might be eyeing the door?
2. Obviously, a bunch of good recruits. Be nice to get a couple of front court players who are ready to contribute right away. A kid like Agee seems to fit that bill, but I am not sure what other high school players we are recruiting who could be that type. I expect we will be actively pursuing some grad transfer and JUCO possibilities for that role. Be nice to pick up another shooter in the class, as well.
3. Continued television and radio packages for the basketball program. I know there is a concern that televised home games hurt attendance, but I also think it is important to be available for those who can't make the games in person.
4. Appropriate weight gains and added strength for AD, Boe, and Brandon.
5. A new branding study that results in us changing our name back to the University of Detroit. (A guy can dream...)
I'll be anxiously awaiting your thoughts.

#1. A player who is at least 6'8/230lbs. I want this individual to be able to run and rebound. I am not asking for a Brian type (Humes or Alexander) a Eugene Blue would do just fine.
#2. A three point shooter.
#3. Coach Davis to calm down on the sideline...just a little bit.

Per the late February luncheon, Coach Davis' wish list includes:
2 experienced big men 6'10" or taller;
2 experienced wing players around 6'6";
1 more guard.

Off the top of my head: 1. Recruit, recruit, recruit - this team needs a serious upgrade in talent. A few experienced guys and some younger 4 year guys. If 6 scholarships end up being available, then one grad transfer big that can run the floor and protect the rim plus one developmental freshman big; one experienced pass 1st and take care of the ball pg, either grad transfer or juco; one more freshman guard; two more wings 6'6" to 6'8" that can shoot, and slash (one freshman and one juco) 2. A full offseason of Mike Davis & staff - this includes individual workouts plus strength, conditioning and nutrition work (keep the guys in Detroit and try to get these guys into summer league ball too - do they still play games at St Cecilia?), setting up "his type" of schedule and finally plan for the season - by this I mean think about incorporating something else in addition to zone defense (man to man plus some kind of pressure defense) and how about spicing up the offense a bit... 3. And of course, have the school go back to branding their athletic teams as the "Detroit Titans" with a cool alternative old school logo that will be available of all sorts of gear for the fans

1) More fans in the stands. It is fun to go to the games but would be a lot more enjoyable for the fans and the players to have a few more walk the walk instead of what has been talk the talk. Let's actually give our team a home court advantage. They haven't had one for quite a while. we talk about defend the hall but we do nothing about it.
2) More athletic recruits with 2 being 6'10"+ with hands. Good hands are important and hopefully the new recruits are from winning programs and know how to win.
3) For Coach Davis to stay hyped on the sidelines.
4) Team to stay on campus this summer and cross train together. Play in some summer leagues like the Saint and acclimate the new arrivals ahead of time. I was not a big Ray Jr. fan but this is one of the things he did well. The last two summers were lost.
5) Go back to being the University of Detroit and get out of the Horizon.

I think we and our coach may need to knock an inch or two off our expectations for the big men. We are in dire need of functional bigs, no doubt. They are on my wish list as well, but 6'10" guys who can actually contribute are a rare breed. There are multiple teams in the Big 10 that don't have two 6'10"+ guys that contribute. Some teams (thinking Ohio State) don't have a 6'10" guy on the roster. I'll take 6'8" so long as they're natural PFs and aren't in love with shooting the 3. Wr need them down low, grabbing every rebound they can find.

Leaving the Horizon should be at the top of everyone's wish list.

I think the odds are in favor of Coach Davis returning to the Titans, and I really hope that's the way it turns out. I don't want to see us have to start all over again.
