Usually at this time of the year we are neck deep in post season tournaments, but alas, things are different this year. The Mean Season starts early. With that in mind, it's time to look forward, and Jon Rothstein gets us going with his Early 45. Gonzaga, Nova, Baylor, Kansas and Florida State are at the top, but it's a work in progress. collegehoopstoday.com/index.php/rothstein-files/early-edition-preseason-45-for-20-21/

Why 45, Sam?

That is a good question. I am not sure why he went with 45. Last year, he put this out in April after the tournament, and it was 25 teams.

Spoil the ending for me, Sam. Are we on the list?

Spoil the ending for me, Sam. Are we on the list? No, but a super secret source told me we were among "others receiving consideration". đ

Nice. Thanks for the info. I hope the Buckeyes make a good stride next season. They were very inconsistent over the past two years.

UNC and MSU ranked way too high. Msu will develop over time but next year probably isnât one for them in losing Cassius and Tillman. In 2 years theyâll be too top 10 again. Carolina has a good frosh class coming in, but you just never know how good frosh will be. And the base of talent they are coming into is weak, although unc could have a real good frontline again next year which helps take pressure off an expected young backcourt. The heels were just soooo bad this year that they have a bit to prove in my opinion. Give me a #25 ranking for them with room for upside from there.

#2 Richmond a possible opponent in the Titansâ MTE tournament. I think a definite opponentâitâs a round robin event, as I understand it.

This ranking was before Cole Anthony declared for the draft. UNC will have a tough time without the best player from last year's disappointing ream. When Anthony was injured last season the Tar Heels couldn't beat anyone.
