“No March Madness (or NBA), no problem: Here are the 20 best basketball films, ranked” www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/movies/2020/03/20/march-madness-best-basketball-movies-ranked-even-the-way-back/5065659002/Not a bad list, but I think “Semi-Pro” belongs somewhere in this top-twenty. I really liked #18-ranked “Glory Road,” would recommend. It’s main character, UTEP coach Don Haskins, was sort of the Detroit Titans coach for about a day. Great 1960s soundtrack to boot, including "People Get Ready,” "Ain't That Peculiar,” "Uptight (Everything's Alright),” and "Dancing in the Street.” I read some good things about #8-ranked “The Way Back,” a recently released film starring Ben Affleck in the role of a high school basketball coach. They were giving out passes to the movie to some randomly selected fans at a February MBB game at Calihan. It opened in theaters on March 6 but I didn’t get to see it before everything got closed down due to the Coronavirus.

My girl and I were going to see The Way Back, but decided to see The Invisible Man instead. Invisible Man was good, but we missed out on TWB for the same reason you did.

Blue Chips should be higher. Good and authentic game play with college and near-pro guys, great cameos of players and coaches, a young and charismatic Shaq, and good critique of paying players to build a program. I'll go to bat for this movie in the pantheon of basketball movies haha!!

Not much of a movie person, so I haven't seen a ton of the movies on the list (or if I have, it was so long ago that I don't really remember them, like Space Jam, He Got Game or Love & Basketball). Four that stand out for me are: #4 Hoop Dreams which I don't remember much about, except I remember liking it; #3 White Men Can't Jump which was the 1st movie I ever bought on VHS (It was on cable the other day and I watched some of it for the 1st time in maybe 15 years); #2 Coach Carter which I catch on cable a few times a year; #1 Hoosiers which is one of my top 20 favorite movies of all time

Hoosiers should be #1 on the list. Easily the best.

That list can only be described as poorly done. Seemed that 1/3 of them weren't even basketball movies. I always think Coach Carter is the one that Martin Lawrence was in. Even the Martin movie deserved a place above some of these. Maybe even that movie where Whoopi Goldberg was a coach.
The biggest shaft (other than Hoosiers not ranked #1) was not including Rebound: The Story of Earl Manigault. That movie is basketball from start to finish and a must see for any true basketball fan.

“Champions,” another basketball themed film coming to a theatre near you: m.imdb.com/title/tt15339570/“A former minor-league basketball coach is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.”
