4) these Grad Transfers are all from U.S. colleges, I believe, so no need to check Icelanders, Egyptians, Polar Bears or Penguins.
Tom, are you confirming that we will have no transfers from Youngstown State?

Tom, are you confirming that we will have no transfers from Youngstown State? What would you think about changing our nickname to “Egyptians?” I mean, our branding is already FUBAR. Being the Egyptians would be unique, inexplicable and hence “edgy”. Tommy Titan could be replaced by Freddy Pharoah.

Our team could be introduced to the strains of "Walk Like an Eqyptian" -- no, wait. We want running, not walking. How about our mascot is RUN DMC (for Detroit Motor City).

In my opinion, it's too soon to judge the impact of the departures of Moore, Boe, and Legrand. Doesn't appear that any of them were so bad, on or off the court, that simply their absence would be a plus. So whether or not their departures are "no real loss" depends on who replaces them. I am not exactly blown away by the players who are said to be part of the incoming class. I will withhold my final opinion until the dust settles, but at this time I am not inclined to say "no big deal" as Boe, Moore, and Legrand head out the door.

I'll reserve judgment as well. All I know for sure is that I'm not excited to see either Boe or Marquis leave and we'd already naturally lost Miller. Of the 5 incoming players we've named, I'm legitimately impressed by 1 of them... who happens to be a grad transfer that we've got for 1 year. I'm moderately interested in 2 others and really not very interested in a couple more. Naturally, it'll be fun to read about all of the rim wreckers that are on their way to Calihan for the next little while. However, those rumors haven't come true to this point in Coach's tenure and my guess is that they most likely morph into 6'7 centers or 2-year transfer players who recently averaged 7 ppg @ some other low major.

Do you think that team wins games? Of course it matters who replaces them, but worrying about going from 8 wins to 5 isn't worth the candle. All anyone will remember is "that team was really bad." Again, Coach will bring in better players or he won't. If he does, we'll be happy. If he doesn't, he won't last a whole lot longer. But we need better players than Boe and LeGrand if we're going to win, so clearing the decks is good. I just can't fathom all the wailing going on about Boe and LeGrand. It's like bemoaning the loss of Gabriel dos Santos and PJ Boutte. If only we'd had them in 2014! Marquis makes a bit more sense.

At most, people are expressing doubt with sober comments like, "I thought he had potential, sorry to see him go." Maybe there is a flood of talent on the way, which will alleviate the concerns and worry. For now, however, our rumored incoming class consists of two small guards who were not heavily recruited by D1 programs, and three transfers who averaged single digit scoring on the low major level. Two of those transfers are coming off injury plagued seasons. If those are the kind of players joining the roster this season, is that a better team than the 2019-20 Titans? And after the fanbase spent months last year waiting on the Egytian twin towers and the mystery big man, I doubt that comments such as "I have heard we are going to get some good players soon" do much to inspire confidence.

OK, I can't fathom the extent to which people are expressing doubt with sober comments like, "I thought he had potential, sorry to see him go." You get 13 scholarships. If you want new blood, old blood has to go. If the new blood is no good, well, again, then we'll have a new coach soon enough. But we know the old blood wasn't good enough.

It's not hard for a lot of people to fathom, I suppose. Moore and Boe are rising juniors who would be in their third season with the program. It's usual for players in that situation to become more consistent and productive. Hopefully Boe would be healthy this coming season, unlike last year, and he's 6-8 while our team lacks size. If we are going to be upgrading the roster, there are other players I would rather jettison to make room for the new talent. Legrand is athletic and also has a year in the system. He would be fine coming off the bench to spell the more talented players that are on the way, plus he would be on track to graduate next year, adding to a positive academic trend we hope continues. We all know the scholarship limit and we all agree we need to upgrade the roster. If we had signed Tyson Acuff in the Fall and added guys like Devin Gage, Ferron Favors, and Aundre Polk in the Spring, I imagine there would be less concern expressed here. But even if we had added those kinds of players, I would have preferred to add them to a roster that included Moore and Boe. The level of concern and skepticism expressed in this thread isn't really a surprise to me at all.

But even if we had added those kinds of players, I would have preferred to add them to a roster that included Moore and Boe. Exactly this. If this will be Coach's big year recruiting talent to 6 & Livernois, I'd much rather mix that talent with Moore and Boe than with Gorman and Hofman. I think Boe could be a solid D1 role player on a good team and think Moore could be a solid 6/7th man on a good team. That's at least folks who can contribute to success. I agree that we wouldn't have won with them as the 2nd and 3rd scoring options on the team... but that's not what we're talking about.

How many players do you guys think we're allowed to have on scholarship? And again, though all this has gotten tossed in the Moore thread, I've said all along I get it re Moore, so that's not an issue. Moore was infernally inconsistent, but he actually produced. But you see, I like something in almost all these guys, too. I think they're all decent role players, or at least have that potential. Not just LeGrand and Nguidjol, but Isiani, Calipari, Rose--all of them have some abilities or potential. But if you want better players, you've gotta clear roster space. And "well, I haven't seen the better players yet" is equally irrelevant to the question. Why? Because obviously we need better players. That's a given when you're losing 23 games a year. But we only have a chance of getting better players if we have roster space. Personally, I'd much rather have Fraser or Liedel or LeGreair than LeGrand. Why? Because I know we don't win with LeGrand. I'd much rather have Waterman or Kuol than Nguidjol. Why? Because I know we don't win with Nguidjol. Way back when I was young, I came home from my first year at college and saw one of my old buddies from the tennis team. He was playing on scholarship at a MAC school. I asked him how the season had gone. He said they'd finished last, "but we've got everybody back next year." "That's doesn't sound good," I replied. He got it right away and we both laughed. When you're losing 23 games a year, you don't want to keep your same roster and hope they'll improve. Players do improve, but they don't all improve, and those that improve often don't improve by a lot. If LeGrand and Boe double their production next year so they're averaging a combined 10 points per game, are we on the way to winning the Horizon? And you ridicule others for anticipating better recruits coming in? I've been tougher on Davis on recruiting than almost anyone --maybe anyone--on this board. Right from the very start I voiced doubts about whether the style he'd adopted at TexSo would work here. Well, thank God Davis also thinks he can do better.

You are arguing against a point that no one expressed. Everyone knows we need a better roster and everyone knows that we need to clear space to add more players. No one is saying keep everyone and still add more talent. You seem to have an issue with people saying, "I know we have to make room, I just wish we could have held onto Boe and Moore and lost someone else." And I didn't ridicule anyone. You actually set that tone by dismissing thoughts with which you disagreed as "wailing".

Right from the very start I voiced doubts about whether the style he'd adopted at TexSo would work here. Well, thank God Davis also thinks he can do better. If the only thing that matters is "bringing in better players" (which I don't disagree with) than 3 of our current commits don't exactly fit the bill. If he starts bringing in players like Pitino at Iona, he can boot anyone he wants from the team. I don't think anyone would disagree with it at all. Point is, when you need to start clearing roster space... I gotta believe you don't start with your better players. Moore is absolutely one of our "better" players though inconsistent. I believe that he'd have been a player who continues to improve. It looks like others believe that too or he'd not be hearing from multiple programs that are in better shape than ours. Boe showed a bit of promise at the end of the season, yet overall underwhelmed. I don't think his ceiling is all that high either, so I'd normally not die on that hill. Unless, of course, he's one of the only true frontcourt players on the roster and one of a couple who can actually snag a rebound. When you're lacking size more than pretty much every other D1 team... it's safe to say I wouldn't start letting those guys walk. I've never been a LeGrand guy and have stated so. To me, he looked like a D2 player. I'm fine with that move. As someone who sees something in most/all of these guys, what do you see in Hofman? Just wondering. I see someone who could be a conference 6th man of the year for Albion. I see 2 guards have signed LOI's that are most likely not going to be difference makers. So far, in my opinion all of our recruiting eggs are in the basket of an unproven 7-footer out of NY who was severely under recruited. I hope this house cleaning works out, but I can't bet on it. The only bet I'd make in regards to this squad is that AD ends his college career taking more shots than any player in modern history... and that sounds pretty ugly.
