Count 'em, folks: 9 incoming players, 8 of them transfers (7 from D-1 schools, 1 from a juco). I won't say it's the new norm, but it is the new "that's not uncommon."
And btw, this is an excellent recruiting class, possibly the best in the conference. Colonial fans should be fired up.

Bob Morris lands one of the JUCO guys I like. 6-8 Matt Mayers from Hutchinson JUCO. 18 points, 9 boards per game, 60% from the floor, and 80% from the free throw line. They're having a good off season, pending waiver decisions on some of the transfers they got. www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/mayers_matt_jfk4Edit: Scout, did this guy call you and tell you he was committing before he announced it? How did you post this so fast? It just happened! Matt Mayers is ranked #8 on Lindy's list of Top 40 JUCO recruits entering D1 this fall. Could play a big role at RMU this season.

Former RMU player AJ Bramah didn’t last long at Nevada:
Statement from the University: “Due to conduct detrimental to the team, AJ Bramah has been dismissed from the Nevada men’s basketball program”

Looks like we might have accidentally dodged some problems with this guy.

Oftentimes the program will release a more neutral statement when a player departs. He must have messed up pretty bad. The grass isn't always greener.

Looks like we might have accidentally dodged some problems with this guy. That's his fourth school. My first thought was that he never should have left Fairfield. Then I thought, "Maybe his three transfers weren't all his idea."

And before St. John's, a year at Cleveland State and two years at St. Francis.

Andrew Toole has really hit a rough patch at RMU, and I'm beginning to wonder if Toole, once presumed a Kampe-like fixture at Bob Morris, can survive it.
Toole was the youngest head coach in D-1 when he was promoted from assistant to head coach at RMU before the 2010-11 season. His first team went 18-14, and his second won 26 games while advancing to the CIT quarter-finals. His 2013 team won 24 games and famously beat Kentucky in the NIT; his 2014 team won 22 games and beat St. John's in the NIT. After winning the conference regular season but losing in the tournament in each of those seasons, his 2015 team finished second in the NEC but finally won the conference tournament for an NCAA bid. They were relegated to the "play-in" game, but won it, before losing to Duke.
But he's now in his 7th season since then, and his record over these 6 and a half years is just 84-115. The Colonials have just two winning seasons in that period, going 18-17 in 2019, and then finishing second in the conference and winning the NEC tournament for what would have been an NCAA bid in 2020. They finished the year 20-14.
The transition to the HL has been a disaster--the Colonials are 6-26 over the last two seasons, 3-16 in conference. Granted, it's been a tough couple years with Covid, but it's been tough for everyone. Last year his best player and leading scorer and rebounder, AJ Bramah, just literally quit on the team mid-season. Now Dunn, the team's leading scorer, is either quitting or being forced out. Earlier this year Toole had to boot Ferron Flavors, a touted transfer from Oklahoma State, off the team. Bob Morris has been hobbled by injuries these last two years but is also bleeding players at a rapid rate even in today's transfer portal environment.
I don't know Toole's current contract status, but if there's no sign of a turnaround in the next two months, I wouldn't be surprised by a change at RMU.

RMU's president resigned abruptly a few days ago to become the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Arizona State. Things at RMU have been very unsettled since they dropped ice hockey.

It seemed like RMU had arguably the best collection of incoming talent in the conference for the 21-22 season. I certainly expected them to be better than they are.
This season for Bob Morris has been an example of how not everyone benefits from the transfer portal. Lost their best player in AJ Braumgh (whose career crashed and burned at Arizona State and Nevada in a manner of months) and lost perhaps their two most high potential transfers, Dunn and Favors. Their season has been a mess.
Ironically, in the days of the portal, the guy who is working out for them so far is traditional JUCO recruit Matt Mayer. Mayer is averaging 6 points and 5 boards in 18 mpg on the season, but has upped that to 10 and 6 in the last four games.
