Originally to Syracuse. Then, he transferred to Seton Hall. 4-star recruit coming out of high school. Seton Hall received NCAA sanctions for an assistant coach tampering when he transferred to the Hall from the Cuse. He is a good student, too. May have been injured last year at Seton Hall. Other stories say he couldn't earn playing time. 6'11" 235 lbs. Was Big East All-Academic team in 2019.

Any links to stories that detail or mention his injury last season?

I think that’s right. From what I’ve read on SHU news and message boards, he just didn’t earn the time and also had a suspension two seasons ago for violation of team rules: shuhoops.com/seton-hall-basketball/five-storylines-that-will-define-seton-halls-off-season/Not saying he’s not worth a scholarship at UDM, but this kid has had one strange journey (read about the tampering case SHU got hit with to steal him from Cuse). At any rate, he’s a former nationwide espn top 100 recruit. It’ll either be a great comeback story or another strange and uneventful chapter in this young man’s life. I hope the former. It’s also worth wondering: will he decide to stick around and play in 2021-2022 if there is no season this year? He’d be about 24.5 years old and not have played meaningful competitive basketball in three years.

Fair questions about him. Of course, he is also the type of transfer that Davis seeks and usually coaches up well. We'll have to take it one year at a time. If he responds well to Davis, then we have two big men for the first time in a long time. It's also his last chance in college to prove he can play.

There are some news stories from last year saying that Thompson missed 4 or more games due to illness.
Here is a video of his 11 points versus Duke

And they will be filing an appeal for two seasons at U-D -- in this case, because he only played one game in November last season, they will be appealing for him to play 4 seasons over 6 years.

I’d think he would deserve the extra year but you never know with the ncaa. Considering we might not have a season, that could mean 3 years for Thompson at UDM. Go get that JD, Taurean!

Welcome to Detroit Taureen. I hope you enjoy your time here and consider this your college when your career is finished. I am hoping that will be a long time from now.

For what it is worth, some EMU fans I know were very disappointed that Thompson did not become a Eagle. He's the type of big man transfer that Coach Murphy often lands.
I think the staff deserves quite a bit of credit for landing Thompson. He had to have been a target of a lot of mid major programs, just on his size alone. The Titans aren't a "hot" program right now, so there had to be a good recruiting job done by the staff, along with some good relationship building.

Commish and youper - it's spelled Taurean (strong like bull) Thompson. So you have some background on why there was a news blackout on recruiting from early May until last week - the staff felt it worthwhile to wait and receive Thompson's commitment late versus getting a commitment from one of the other players who had been identified on this board. They also had positive feedback from Thompson all during this time and felt the chances of landing him were good. While many here understandably were worried, the staff felt that they would get Thompson, who does not have an active Twitter or Facebook account. So, there was a cone of silence by design.

I hope the other player we were stalling wasn't Udemadu Because we can still use him. Waterman looks to be more of a 3 than a 5 so we presently will have someone out of position when Thompson is not on the floor. It kind of looks like it might have been A U. as his HS coach posted his availability once Thompson was announced.
