Warren Marshall, a point guard from Brother Rice, has received an offer from Detroit. Listed at 6-3, 160, he reportedly has offers from Oakland, Grand Valley State and Wayne State. I think we'll see more D1 offers coming his way.

More on Marshall. He hit the game winning shot with four seconds left against Cass Tech.

Latest version of ESPN's Top 100 player rankings for the class of 2024. The only Michigan representative is Durral Brooks, a guard from Grand Rapids Catholic Central, at #96. Conversely, there are seven players currently playing in Arizona in the top 100. Not all of them are homegrown; some are from out of state and attending the basketball prep schools. Still, AZ produces a lot of basketball talent each year. It's been said that U-D should hire a coach with Michigan ties but you might get more bang for your buck getting someone from this desert locale. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/espnu100

The latest version of the ESPN Top 100 for 2024 is out. Cooper Flagg, who reclassified from 2025 earlier this summer, is ranked #1. Some notes: The only Michigan connection here is Aiden Terrell at #21. He's a 6-11 Detroit native currently at Prolific Prep. From what I have been able to determine, he never played high school basketball in Detroit, moving from the City at an early age. Durral Brooks, a Michigan commit from Grand Rapids who was previously ranked #1, has fallen out of the top 100. The state of Arizona is represented, as seven players are balling in "State 48" this season, mostly at prep schools. Beyond the prep scene, there is a deep talent pool in AZ. I wish the Titans could make some inroads here in recruiting. Schools of interests and number of commitments from this list: Michigan State - 2 North Carolina - 3 Georgetown - 2 Arizona - 2 Duke - 2 Ohio State - 1 www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/espnu100

The All American JUCO Jamboree takes place this month. I hope that the Titan coaches are in attendance, checking out prospects for 2024. Be nice to lock in a couple of good junior college players as early commits this fall.

In years past, the calendar turning to September generally triggered a lot anticipation about the approaching November early signing period. That's not the case these days, as the recent focus of recruiting under Mike Davis is the transfer portal, while high school recruiting has become less important across the college basketball landscape. It wasn't that long ago that Verbal Commits would show that the Titans had made offers to around twenty high school kids for a particular class, but times have changed. Verbal Commits shows the Titans with four offers out for the class of 2024. Now, that's probably not accurate; VC doesn't get as many mid major offers listed as they used to, and there are even fewer "analysts" in the State of Michigan who are tracking mid major offers than there used to be. Things get missed. I didn't know we knew we were recruiting Ryan Hurst until he actually committed in February. Still, I like looking at the offers that have been reported and thinking about who might end up as Titans. And I wonder if we have a shot to sign anyone in November. I hope so; trying to find ten new players every Spring isn't the best way to build a roster. (I'm not singling out the Titans for criticism on this point; it's the way a lot of programs have been operating the past few years.) Some observations on the 2024 recruiting efforts: Warren Marshall, a guard from Brother Rice who we offered in March, is an interesting one. He's a local kid, and landing him would mark the second year in a row of landing a local high school guard. Put him on the roster with Mak and Ryan, and the backcourt has a nice local favor. He doesn't seem to have been offered by the power conferences, so maybe we have a shot. We offered Joseph White, a guard from Waukegan, back in 2020. He has the post about his Titans offer pinned to the top of his twitter page. That might mean something or it might not. Could mean the Titans are still interested in him and he's leaning our way. Could mean that Detroit is his only D1 offer and he's keeping it up there just for that reason. Some of you might remember Dylan Carl, a big man out of Alma who Coach Ray offered early and recruited hard. Dylan kept the post with his Titan offer pinned to the top of his Twitter page for a long time, in fact, right up until the last stages of his recruitment, when he committed to Purdue Fort Wayne. Hard to make a prediction based on social media activity. Issac Nyakundi is a 6-9 center from Minnesota we offered last year who just picked up an offer from The Citadel. Also holds an offer from Northern Illinois, per VC. Michael Pace, a guard we offered last summer from Georgia, is still available and apparently playing well. There's not much out there publicly about Titan recruiting for 2024. I know there is more going on, and I imagine we've got some offers out to players that we would immediately accept if they said yes. Personally, I'd be excited to land Marshall, either in the fall or next spring. He's a talented player in his own right, and Brother Rice seems to be getting back to putting out some good basketball talent. Signing a good big man and a scoring small forward from the JUCO ranks would be a nice development for next month: get them locked in and start building that relationship that makes players more likely to stick around than hit the transfer portal after a season. That's a lot of words to say, "I have no idea what is going to happen with the class of 2024, but I am hoping for the best". I'm interested in hearing what anyone else is thinking in terms of a wish list. Go Titans!

I've accepted that we will have a new roster every year. I will still root for the titans...its just not as much fun having a new roster every year. The days of watching a players like Ryvon Coville and Evan Bruinsma develop over a four year career are over.

I'm not a fan of 10 new players each season. The counts, as near as I can suss, for next year's team is 1 freshman, 3 sophs, 3 juniors, one senior and three grad students. Of the walk-ons, three are juniors and one is a freshman.

The days of watching a players like Ryvon Coville and Evan Bruinsma develop over a four year career are over. Man, you aren't kidding. I miss seeing players develop over the years in the same program, and I think, generally speaking, that college basketball as a whole misses that aspect of the game. Fans have less of a connection with the teams, the players don't develop like they used to, relationships aren't as lasting, etc. It's a different world. I am hopeful that things will settle down in a couple of years as the impact of Covid eligibility goes away, but I think we're still going to see a lot of first time transfers, especially at the mid major level. Lots of freshmen are going to transfer if things don't work out the way they want in year one (see Isaiah Jones), and then any mid major kid who averages double figures will probably be hearing from some upper level conference school who wants to add him on the roster.

6'4" combo guard Larry Johnson An example of how quickly a player can rise in the rankings: Since we offered Larry Johnson last year, his recruitment has exploded. He was not ranked at the time we offered, but now Rivals ranks him #53 nationally in the class. He is set to make his decision on Thursday, with his finalists being Creighton, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Illinois, and Missouri.

The Titans extended an offer to Class of 2024 guard Kobie Boose from Flint Hamady. He also has an offer from UC-Irvine.

Warren Marshall, a point guard from Brother Rice, has received an offer from Detroit. Listed at 6-3, 160, he reportedly has offers from Oakland, Grand Valley State and Wayne State. I think we'll see more D1 offers coming his way. Marshall committed to Oakland today. That one stings a bit. In the twitter post announcing his commitment, he stated, "Home is where the heart is."

I took note of a social media post that said 2024 recruit, Deuce Jones, rated a four star recruit by ESPN, had narrowed his college choices to Fairfield, Florida International, Temple and Detroit M@#rcy. Unfortunately, shortly afterwards, Deuce responded to the post and said it was Duquesne, not DM, who had made his final four. Something apparently got misinterpreted as that news made the rounds.
Oh, well. Back to waiting for news.
