San Diego State lands another four star recruit as Miles Byrd commits. Byrd, a Northern California native, is ranked #89 in the nation by 24/7. The 6-6 shooting guard had a top eight of SDSU, Colorado State, Pacific, Villanova, Washingto, Minnesota, Santa Clara, and St. Mary's. The Aztecs do not intend to give up their "big dog" status in the Mountain West. San Diego State is putting together a class that makes Power Five conference teams jealous. They landed their third 4 star recruit of the class of 2022 yesterday. Koren Johnson is a 6-1 guard out of Washington. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/koren-johnson-265229

Quite a year for Wyoming. Picked to finish tied for eighth, they put up a 25-9, 13-5 record in route to a fourth place finish and a NCAA tournament berth, where they lost in the First Four to Indiana. Great season for the Cowboys. They are riding that momentum in the off season, landing two transfers from USC: 6-3 junior guard Ethan Anderson and 6-9 junior forward Max Agbonkpolo. Looks like they are positioning to make another run next year.
Edit: The Cowboys also added UCLA minor player Jake Kyman via transfer today.

Boise State, Colorado, Wyoming, and Smokey Gaines University all made the NCAA tournament. Utah State made the NIT and Fresno State won The Basketball Classic. Excellent year for the MWC, even if all four NCAA entrants fell in the first round.

The Wyoming Cowboys bring back 5 of their top six scorers and add three PAC 12 transfers. Things are looking good.

The Wyoming Cowboys bring back 5 of their top six scorers and add three PAC 12 transfers. Things are looking good. As the above post indicates, hopes were high for Wyoming this season. They were returning a bunch of talent and added two transfers from USC and one from UCLA. In the 2021-22 season, the Cowboys won 25 games and made the NCAA tournament. The future looked bright, and the preseason poll had the 'Boys second in the league. Fast forward to today, and the team sits at 7-15, in ninth place in the Mountain West. Injuries hit the team hard; they lost star player Graham Ike to injury before the season started, and he hasn't played at all. Several other players have missed significant time to injuries. Yesterday, it was announced that this year's leading scorer would miss the rest of the season after suffering concussions. And just today, word broke that the three USC/UCLA transfers quit the team last night after practice. I don't know the story behind it, but it's a mess. The Wyoming fans are sick. You can never predict with certainty how a college basketball season is going to go.

I think all three of those guys had the same AAU coach, Wyo assistant Marc Rogers. Keep an eye on him moving forward and see if he leaves after the season. Ike's injury was devastating. The three California guys might have been a bad fit. My wife and FIL and MIL are Wyo grads, my MIL grew up in Laramie and we have a summer home near there. It's a long ways from the beach, geographically and culturally, and not everyone adjusts. Linder has done a nice job there, he's somewhat local (Colorado) and understands the region. I suspect he'll get it straightened out.

Well, Miles Byrd has only played in four games, with reports indicating that he has suffered an injury that has stopped him from playing. Elijah Sanders has only played in 11 games, due mostly to sitting behind a talented and experienced group of upperclassmen. Koren Johnson de-committed from SDSU and committed to Washington, where he is averaging 6 points per game, but not likely to see the NCAA tournament this year. The Aztecs haven't suffered from the lack of contribution from the class of 2022; they are 19-5 and in first place in the MWC. In the MWC standings, Nevada is a surprise. They were picked to finish 9th, but currently are in 2nd place. Boise State is 3rd; must be the addition of Mo Sylla that is helping them reach those heights. New Mexico started out fast but is 5-5 in their last ten. Wyoming, picked to have a great season but suffering from injuries and other issues, is in last place. Only two games separate the top four teams in the league. It's going to be wild finish.

Had he played this year, he'd probably be off to the NBA. Not playing, though, he probably thinks he needs to go someplace where he'll get more exposure, and also get paid. Tough break for the Pokes.
