A pretty awful looking set of predictions by CBS. I predict they are way off base at almost every level. Worth noting they were the least accurate projection last year.

Here's projections from a site I've not known of before, "Last Word on Sports."
1. Wright State 2. YSU 3. Robt. Morris 4. Northern Kentucky 5. Cleveland State 6. Purdue Fort Wayne 7. Detroit 8. Green Bay 9. UIC 10. IUPUI 11. Milwaukee 12. Oakland
They've got AD first team all-conference, and Chris Brandon as Defensive Player of the Year.

The biggest mistake being made by the pre-season pollsters is assuming that we will run our offense through Antoine to the same degree as in the past two years. The biggest risks to us bettering the pre-season polls are the status of Waterman, if Taurean plays like he did at Seton Hall; and, injuries. Brandon and Fraser should be ready for the HL season.
Niagara's coach, Paulus, has refused to consent to Waterman's waiver request. Thus, as to him, we are in the same position this year as Oakland was last year with Rashad Williams.

I wouldn't get my hopes up but early this upcoming week, I'll attempt to contact Coach Paulus and try to reason with him about the waiver

I sent a message to Street & Smith today asking if they are publishing a college basketball yearbook this year. They replied “We are not. At this time, we have no plans to publish anymore yearbooks.”

I remember pre-internet, it was the only place to get all the schedules, published in the back of the magazine in fine print. USA today and larger city dailies would usually publish all the conference standings once a week, but if you wanted to know who they'd played, or who was coming up, it was S&S.

I sent them a short message telling them how much I’ve enjoyed reading the annual preview magazines for fifty years, the contact person responded “Thank you for that! I’ve worked here 21 years. I will miss the books and the wonderful customers I was able to work with.”

Even during the internet age is has remained my favorite, and something I would refer to all during the season. I will miss it.

The Sporting News and Street and Smiths college basketball previews were my favorites. I think the Sporting News stopped publishing theirs 2 years ago, Dick Vitale also had a college basketball preview for a couple of seasons and it was also excellent. The internet is eliminating a lot of things, I cant remember the last time I purchases a Sunday Detroit News/Free Press...at least we are saving a few trees.

The Sporting News actually took over Street & Smith's for its last couple years. I scarcely know a soul who reads TSN anymore--once the bible of baseball. Even Sports Illustrated--anybody read it anymore? I used to take used copies of SI to Americans in the local prison when I lived in South America nearly 40 years ago (usually fairly decent guys who were in for rank stupidity-- aka drug dealing). Man did they love the swimsuit issue!

I remember subscribing to Basketball Weekly during the Titans’ glory years of the late ‘70s. They had updated schedules with game results, betting lines and predictions, recruiting updates, player profiles and recent game stories. It sort of mirrored today’s internet coverage with a week time lag, but indispensable for the serious college and prep hoops fan.
I still have a couple boxes of annuals from the past half century— Dick Vitale’s preview, Athlon, Street & Smith, Sporting News, etc.
