Looking at this from another perspective: If the school had the millions it would take to re-create football, I'd rather see that invested in the basketball program.

Welcome to Fan from fellow NYer Larrytitan. If you were an SJU fan in the 60s and 70s, then you’re familiar with John Warren, Ralph Abraham Joe DePre, Wayne McCoy, David Russell ,and Billy Paultz. I grew up in Bklyn and was a Redmen season ticket holder in the Mullin, Berry,Sealy era. In Between, I attended U of D in the Murray- Haywood span. Now that I live near Syracuse, I visit Detroit yearly to catch a few games. Hope to meet you sometime. Where did you live in NY?

Larry, we too had communicate years ago on the old board, I'm a pretty old guy I was on the Doug Moe city champion team at Erasmus Hall, ("on" means on the end of the bench). I got into St Johns with the Tony Jackson teams, I enjoyed the Barry Kramer NYU teams also. I went to Rider (College in those days), finished at Baruch (CCNY), got my MA at FDU in New Jersey.
Those were the Connie Harkins and Rajah Brown years in Brooklyn. One of my good friend was Artie Heyman, I met him in the Catskill's one summer, Artie was All American at Duke from Oceanside, LI. He signed with the Knicks , old money, $1.5M, could shoot the eyes out of the basket, but had slow feet, didn't make it, you can't coach away slow feet. Artie was very much like the Greg Wendt, built the same, Greg was quicker.

Deja vu......didn’t we meet at halftime of a Titan game 5-6 yrs ago? We’re you at Erasmus with Billy Cunningham? Another name from that era was Larry Brown at Lon Beach HS. As for SJU, Alan Siden and Gus Alfieri were the backcourt.

Billy was a sophomore transfer from some private school when I was a Jr. Doug Moe was a Senior, a big, big 'man", Billy was a tall skinny kid, maybe 6:4 and new Erasmus coach Bernie Kirsner had them go one on one all the time and Moe would kill Billy, everyday, almost knock his head clean off. They both went to North Carolina as did Larry Brown. Artie Heyman and Larry brown didn't care for each other either. I remember Alan Siden solid NYC player. When I was Rider we'd practice with Seton hall a lot and Dick Vitale was the student manager of Seton Hall, he was loud, what a surprise................

Larry we may have met, or perhaps planned to meet when you came into town. I used to really like coach McCallum, and his teams, and of cause Jr. so I managed to go to as many game as I could. I think Ray McCallum was a bit "light" on X's and O's especially in closing out games, that was likely his staff game planning failure. I liked his class and the type of game the kids he brought in. Mike Davis is ok, his style is kind of school yard, as a old guy I like more of a classic style, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina etc. I also think Mike Davis Jr. might be better off not playing for his dad, that's just me. Playing for your dad is tough, Ray Sr and Jr seems to do it well.
