I was wrong about Thompson having an immediate impact, but my gut feeling that Johnson would help is right so far. Thompson doesn't have to be Eli Holman for us (although that would be nice) but him giving us what NJ gave us during his senior year would go a long way towards helping. I'm always wary about reading too much into the first game, but given the fact that we were playing a top team with lots of guys coming back and a three wins already, I am very encouraged by what I saw from the Titans. Sam you might still be right. Give Coach Davis a little more time. He has a pretty good history of resurrecting some troubled Bigs. Johnson not only has a nice touch but looks to be very athletic.

Yeah, I'm definitely not giving up on anyone yet. Like you said, Davis has a good track record with players like Thompson. I wouldn't be shocked to see him take off. UP, unless things change, this is going to be the first year in a long time we don't get to see each other at a Titan game. That's a shame. I'm glad we're able to communicate via this board, but I'll miss you and I sharing the same look at crucial parts of the games and yelling out the same things at the same time.

I didn’t catch the game unfortunately, so am appreciating insights from those that did. Fox sports has a 5 min recap —> www.foxsports.com/detroit/story/michigan-state-fends-off-pesky-detroit-mercy-83-76-120420I couldn’t find a way to rewatch it anywhere so any tips also appreciated. Main thought - we need names on jerseys. All these new faces plus it inevitably helps fans get to know the team better/faster. I know some coaches are old school and say it only matters what front of jersey says but hey help a fan out. Agreed about the jerseys. When fans like us don't know who everyone is, you know the names need to be there.

Game was absolutely winnable. Supporting cast looks very good. AD shouldn't have to shoot 26 times in a game this year. He still did, but he doesn't have to.Team looked much better than what we've been watching... and without Brandon, who would have helped immensely today. Every 50/50 call went MSU's way as well. I know I comment a lot about modern basketball's over reliance on the three point shot, but AD is a prime example of a guy who probably shoots it too much. Last night he was 0-9 from three point range. On his two point shots, he was 10-17. And that's not a one game aberration. In the past he has had games where he is incredibly efficient on his two point shots. He has a very effective 12-15 foot pull up jumper. I would love to see him utilize that more. Excellent point about Brandon. He might have made the difference in this game.

I went back and checked yesterday's paper. We were 25-point underdogs, played them even for 38 minutes (when the refs took over).

I saw two Vegas point-spread lines yesterday, one at 26.5 points, the other 27.5. I don’t bet on sports, but I thought that was was a good opportunity for a wager on the Titans. Before the game I wrote down 85-65 win for MSU.

We are going to miss seeing you and the other familiar faces at Calihan. There were times over the last few years where seeing you guys was the best part of the trip. That and the referees getting my adrenaline up is invigorating. Still hoping we get Moose back at the hall.

I am thinking that ND will be an 8-10 pt favorite for Tomorrow’s game.

It looks like AD has matured a bit, he's really is looking like a basketball player, like his basketball pants seems like his and a pair he borrowed that had to be rolled up. Yes he did shot a bit too much but only when he though he had to take the game over. When he played "team" ball, the team looked good.

The night of this game I was working, so I listened to what I could on 1500 AM, and then switched to 760 AM and the Spartan broadcast when the WLQV signal faded. This morning I finally got around to watching the recording of the BTN broadcast, and watched it like I was scouting the team.
I love the aggression of new guys Bul, Fraser, and Johnson, particularly how strong they go to the basket. Bul is long and lanky, and looks like a better version of Derrien King so far. (Not a slam on King, who had some good games for us and always put forth a good effort.) All three of them play like they see Detroit as an opportunity to really have a great college basketball experience after things didn't work out elsewhere. So far they look like the appreciate the chance they have been given. Johnson impressed me with a couple of athletic defensive plays.
Willy looks much improved, especially inside. Just seems a lot more comfortable and effective on the court.
I also saw why Thompson only played one minute. I don't know why, but during that minute of action, he looked disengaged and confused. Was out of position on offense and defense, and stood around watching during a sequence where the Spartans scored on an offensive rebound. In fact, after that bucket, you can here Bul, who was battling on the glass by himself, screaming at someone, and I think it was Thompson. Dan Dakich on the call said that Thompson has pro talent and "when his motor is running he is a game changer". Looks like he needs to start up that motor. I remain hopeful.
