I was pleased to hear that Coach Davis said he is committed to leaving the Horizon, although as I joked in that thread, I hope means UD athletic programs, and is not just talking about his own future. The Horizon deteriorated rapidly after the loss of Butler, moving from a conference knocking on the door of the Top 10 to a conference struggling (and not always succeeding) to stay out of the bottom 10. Plus we lost our sister private schools in Butler, Loyola, and Valpo.
But I'm feeling more optimistic about the Horizon than I have in some time. I think the Titans are going to be real good next year. I hate to lose Brandon, Kuol, Rose, and Fraser. But in Davis and Waterman we have two unique talents. Harvey should be a major addition that makes us forget about Bul Cool (which really should have been his nickname); Johnson apparently coming back now is great news; Curran and Phillips look like important parts. Coach sounded optimistic today about further additions.
Getting Pat Baldwin is great news for the Conference, and Milwaukee seems to be getting some good players to put around him--they'll be a tough out (and don't be surprised if Baldwin, Jr. isn't in the conference for at least two years). CSU managed to hold all the key parts of their team together, especially Patton. They'll be good. Robert Morris has some real impressive talent transferring in. Wright State has some nice talent back and will be well-coached. I don't think Loudon Love has announced his plans yet, and while the presumption seems to have been that he'd not return, we'll see--if he comes back WSU looks real strong. Northern Kentucky is another team that will be well coached, has kept all its key players in the fold, and now adds one Chris Brandon. Oakland could be very tough, especially if sophs Micah Parrish and Trey Townsend take a step forward. They've got Jamal Cain coming in from Marquette to replace Oladapo, the nation's returning assist leader in Moore, and Zion Young.
Should be a good race, and the league looks deeper than it has for several years.
