College football story, but it is related to NIL. As a college running back, this player signed a $400,000 NIL deal, with one of the conditions being that he would pay 15% of his pretax NFL earnings to the investment company that funded his NIL deal. Either the young man didn't read the contract fully, or he was just super focused on getting the 400K. This is the downside of wanting to be treated like a pro instead of a student athlete. I am reminded of the words of Woody Harrelson in season one of True Detective: "A man's game charges a man's price, son. If nothing else, take that lesson from this experience." www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38335229/florida-legislator-says-bears-dt-gervon-dexter-nil-deal-violated-law

According to this tweet, Utah football announced that every scholarship football player is "eligible to receive" a 2024 Dodge Big Horn truck, through a partnership created by the NIL collective.
I am interested in seeing the details on that.

There is a possible new development in the NIL world. The genie is out of the bottle. www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39047353/ncaa-proposes-rule-let-schools-athletes-enter-nil-dealsFrom the article. N CAA president Charlie Baker proposed rule changes Tuesday that would allow Division I schools for the first time to pay their athletes in ways that are not tied to educational resources.
Baker shared the proposed changes in a letter sent to member schools. If Division I schools choose to adopt the rules, they would be allowed to enter into name, image and likeness deals directly with their athletes. The new rules would also create a new subdivision of Division I schools that would be allowed to create its own set of rules for recruiting, transfers, roster size and a wide range of other policies. To be a part of that subdivision, each school would have to put millions of dollars each year into a trust fund for athletes.

One of the members of this board mentioned a year or two ago that he was working on an NIL opportunity for UDM athletes. He even said he ran the idea by coach Davis, who said it was “big time.” I don’t think this ever happened. That person doesn’t post very often these days. After years of saying our time would finally come, I think he finally realized he was wrong and wasted a lot of money.

Actually, Mole, "that" poster is on here frequently and has successfully started our NIL Program, which is the first one in the Horizon and a model for the League to follow. I realize you work at the greatest University on earth, but please refrain from nailing people like PTCTitan who put so much time, effort, and heart into our Program. I'm not sure what's worse - the absent alum or the Negative Nellie. We have many problems. But please become informed and support your alma mater where you can. You can begin by making a donation at our NIL at theshieldnil.org/

Well, imagine my embarrassment. The “big time” NIL operation is already up and running and I had no idea. It’s clearly working. It’s helped the Titans put together an all star roster that lost an exhibition game to D2 Wayne State and then go 0-9 and have a 342 NET ranking. Keep up the excellent work!

I'm sure PTCTitan and the people who have helped him put this modest but already-beneficial NIL program together appreciate your support Mole. I guess your lack of attention to the goings-on here have nothing to do with the fact you were clueless. I'm also sure PTC would be happy to educate you on this program.
It's great to have glass half-full supporters around like you. It really helps build our Program.

But whether you are an optimist or a pessimist, everyone here agrees I think that a glass (or program) that is missing so much water needs a refill ASAP.

I was being sarcastic about the Mole, Bob. But yes, the glass needs more water soon.
