Here's the first of hopefully many analyses of the 2021-22 Horizon League Men's Basketball race.

Lots of detail, with a little more reliance on obscure stats than I find helpful. Overall, a good job of previewing the league.

Here's the first of hopefully many analyses of the 2021-22 Horizon League Men's Basketball race. Seems like a good read on the Titans. I appreciate his emphasis on Waterman. Waterman is a very different player than Kevin Obanor, but recognizing that, Davis/Waterman are very capable of doing what Abmas/Obanor did last year for Oral Roberts.

One guy's list of the top 100 mid-major players for 2021-22. makingthemadness.com/sean02mtms-top-100-mid-major-players-for-the-2020-21-season/Antoine Davis @#17. Other HL Players: #16 Patrick Baldwin, Milwaukee #22 Grant Basile, WSU #55 Jalen Moore, Oakland #94 Andre Gholston, Milwaukee Hon. Mention: Tanner Holden WSU; Torey Patton, CSU; Tre Gomillion, CSU Also of interest: #42, Ryan Rollins, Toledo - Detroit area kid who was MAC FOY last season #60, Malachi Smith, Chattanooga -- started with Wright State #62, Tank Hemphill, Drake - started at Green Bay #80, AJ Bramah, Nevada - started at RMU He missed the boat on Waterman, who didn't even make his "honorable mention" list.

I think it's weird that he rated PBJr higher than AD and justified ranking AD lower because we haven't been to the postseason like Abmas. That reasoning made total sense given how many times PBJ has been to the NCAA tournament.

I bought Lindy’s Basketball issue today. Detroit is ranked 6th in Horizon with Wright State, Cleveland State and Milwaukee 1-2-3. AD is first team all conference and Best Shooter. However, Patrick Baldwin Jr is Newcomer of the year, player of the year, most versatile and best NBA prospect. On a national scale, AD is ranked #136 and Baldwin #13 TOO MUCH HYPE!

Let me guess they just moved Milwaukee up from the 8th spot they finished last year and moved everyone down a spot that was in-between the 8th and 3rd spot. There research went as far as seeing PBJ was a top ranked player going on a mediocre team at best last year.

Green Bay I am scratching my head on PFW ranked so higher. I didn't think they improved their roster to jump up 5 spots from last year. I thought RM did a better job at recruiting than PFW.

I like the fact that these "experts" don't think that much of us. Most of them don't really know our players. The ones picking Milwaukee really high are saying implicitly that if we got DJ Harvey out of high school 4 years ago, we would have been a contender. But since we got him as a grad transfer, we're not. Very logical.

I feel like Detroit is tougher to determine by how often things change here. Wright State and NKU are more steady and easy to predict. PFW was an overtime away from completely changing how last year looked. That being said, i don't think they're 5th in this league but i think they will be capable of winning big games. I would not put them above Detroit. They will probably look better in Non-Conference due to scheduling but head to head i say detroit would take 2 out of 3 with how current lineups are shaking out.

The ones picking Milwaukee really high are saying implicitly that if we got DJ Harvey out of high school 4 years ago, we would have been a contender. But since we got him as a grad transfer, we're not. Very logical. FWIW, Baldwin is ranked considerably higher than DJ Harvey was out of high school. The three public national recruiting services--ESPN, 247Sports (Scout), and Rivals--ranked Harvey from #49 high to #53 low. They ranked Baldwin from #4 high to #7 low. That's like the difference between adding Kobe Bryant and adding Chauncey Billups. And, FWIW, if we had landed Harvey right out of HS, we would have gotten a lot of attention and it would have bumped us up a lot in pre-season predictions. Prognosticators reasonably look at what they consider to be Baldwin's potential vs. Harvey's actual performance, which has not been that of one of the top 50 players in his class. If Baldwin's career follows Harvey's, believe me, in 3 years they won't be projecting MIlwaukee to win the league on Baldwin's shoulders. All that said, I agree that a lot of people are expecting too much of Baldwin. I'll have more on that in my projections. And don't get me wrong--I'm really happy to have Harvey and think he'll be very productive for us. Meanwhile, Baldwin is easily the highest ranked recruit ever to join the HL right out of HS. Ray McCallum is almost certainly next, unless I've forgotten someone obvious. Ray was ranked from #17 high (ESPN) to #26 to #43 (Rivals) low by the national services.

As I wrote, I like the fact that Lindy's is underestimating us. Same old Titans. No defense and all Antoine Davis. I hope they all believe this for the next 4 months.
