What do you mean a good part of the crowd was wearing masks? I thought masks were required according to a statement by Vowels. For the most part people were wearing masks, but I would say perhaps 50% were wearing them improperly with their nose uncovered (hence the remark about being able to actually count noses for determining attendance at the game). I would say at least 20% took their masks off at some point during the contest. There were student athletes in the bleachers watching the game not wearing masks. There were small signs at the entrance doors indicating you had to wear a mask, but no PA announcements or scoreboard messages reminding people of the need to wear a mask in a proper fashion. There were no ticket takers or ushers at this free-admission game, not sure if it would be their job to ask people to put on a mask or wear it properly. As a practical matter, I guess the University can stipulate a mask requirement, but there is no practical way to enforce the policy. Thanks I guess I’ll have to think about this one for awhile. I’m not pro or anti mask but I do think a policy is policy and I have never been a fan of doing things half-assed. It is distressing to hear about the student athletes not following a policy of the AD. Especially after going through a shortened season without fans. Makes me kind of wonder where their true priorities are and their real devotion to team and team success.

I don't know how you enforce a mask policy once the customer has entered the building. So, if I'm having trouble breathing and I take my mask down to catch my breath, you're going to kick me out? Calihan's advantage against Covid is its lack of a modern air circulation system. Not much travels very far in the air of Calihan. In fact, there are likely droplets from the 1958 flu pandemic still hanging around the seats on the west side.

Then if you do not have enough guts to unforced a policy do not announce it because it is no longer a policy but a request or wish. I guess I have always had disdain for people who want to be in position to make decisions but are not prepared to follow through on their decisions or feel a responsibility for their decision. I have always put them in my Wantabe category.

Did anyone go to the game? I was there with my friend Curt. He asked how you were doing UP, and said to tell you hello. Rogo came over and sat with us in the second half. We had a good time. It was great being back in the building. Early in the game I sat on the floor and kept my mask on the whole time I was there in close proximity to people I didn't know. When Curt and I moved upstairs, I was less consistent with the mask. No one was sitting close to us and Curt and I are both vaccinated. We will see if the University is going to try to enforce the mask rule in future games. I was feeling good when the Lady Titans were up 63-56 late in the fourth, but they were outscored the rest of the game 17-3. This was when the lack of experience playing together was evident. They weren't sure who to go with to get buckets when they needed them. We are going to struggle this season. We are small and not very talented. We are an underwhelming outside shooting team. None of that is a surprise for a team that was thrown together late in horrible circumstances. On the plus side, we play hard and avoided silly mistakes for the most part. The coach is active and involved and the players listen to her. No one, coaches or players, seemed to be just mailing it in. I was proud of their effort and will continue to support them. Go Titans!

I am really looking forward to the season and getting back in the building. I am also looking forward to seeing my fellow Titan fans. Thank you for going to the game and sharing your observations which I do respect.
