I noticed a couple of current promotions at other Horizon schools for MBB games. Cleveland State is doling out 500 tickets to the general public for tonight’s game versus Oakland: www.csuvikings.com/sports/m-baskbl/2021-22/releases/20220110ous4plFor Saturday’s game versus the Titans, they are giving away a clothing item to the first 1,000 fans and running a $1 hot dog promotion. Here’s a link to a summary of all the CSU promotions they have for MBB games this season: csuvikings.com/general/2021-22/2021-22_MBB_Promotional_Schedule.pdfGreen Bay has a promotion where they are providing free game tickets and other special activities for interested alumni: greenbayphoenix.com/news/2021/12/3/mens-basketball-to-host-alumni-day-jan-15.aspx#:~:text=–%20The%20Green%20Bay%20men%27s%20basketball%20program%20will,on%20the%20social%20events%20are%20to%20be%20finalized. Here’s what Oakland has going: DEC. 21 | LITTLE CAESARS ARENA I 7 P.M. I OAKLAND VS. MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY DEC. 30 | AUTOGRAPH NIGHT I 7 P.M. I OAKLAND VS. NORTHERN KENTUCKY COME INTERACT WITH YOUR FAVORITE STAR WARS CHARACTERS FEB. 24 | BOY SCOUT NIGHT I 7 P.M. I OAKLAND VS. PURDUE FT. WAYNE JOIN THE BOY SCOUTS OF MICHIGAN IN CHEERING ON THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES. GROUP TICKET PACKAGES AVAILABLE SOON FEB. 26 | SENIOR NIGHT | 3 P.M. I OAKLAND VS. WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY COME OUT AN HONOR OUR SENIOR CLASS AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SEASON Wish UDM was more open to doing similar things. Don’t think we did anything extra to try and get fannies in the seats for the nationally televised game with Milwaukee. I realize there has been significant turnover in the M&P section, but still wish there could be more done. Obviously Covid complicates planning and executing some promotions, but this doesn’t appear to be halting the efforts of our conference competitors.

For those of you who think our AD and his dept. are okay because he graces you with a hello or nod in the TC. What are we doing to put more asses in the seats. 1) Closing the lower bowl 2) Only packaged food at the Concessions 3) Closing a hallway 4) making fans stand in line longer for tickets 5) Parking lot puddles that you can swim in
Change seems directed at decreasing fan game time experience.

Yeah, we are just awful at this kind of stuff. I don’t think anyone could possibly argue otherwise. Give credit to OU, they do promotions, corporate partnerships, events very well. I’d say they do this as best a mid major with limited resources possibly can. I’d rate them a 10 and us a 1. I haven’t set foot in Calihan since I graduated 13 years ago. I keep meaning to go back but it’s hard with COVID, work and family demands. As someone who lives 3 hours away, I’d be much more likely to make the trip if there were fun activities like what Green Bay is doing. Maybe that’s just me, but the school won’t know until they try more things. I haven’t been to the homecoming game ever. That seems maybe a good time, but if you can’t make it to that particular game that weekend then you’re just out of luck? I don’t care much for football but one thing Notre Dame does is hold academic lectures for the public on game days. I enjoy going to those and they’re well attended. You need to showcase dynamic professors that speak about interesting things. But, why can’t UDM try something like that? Again, maybe no one shows, but maybe it catches on? It’s virtually free to try. Unlock a nice classroom an hour before a Saturday game and try to market it the best you can. If not that, hold a public STEM related lecture before a game that is geared to kids. Maybe some parents now have an excuse to drag their kids to the game?
No one ever tries jack shit at UDM. I don’t believe we have any talent when it comes to this kind of stuff.

When I bought my tickets to the CSU road game online, they collected my email address. I have since received a couple email messages about Viking athletics, one a nice update from their Athletic Director, and then a message about promotions for this evening’s game (content of message below). Great incentives to attend (reduced ticket prices, free parking, giveaway items, concession specials like $1 beers). Developing a database of potential fans and a corresponding automated system to remind them of upcoming games and promotions seems like something Titan Athletics should aim to emulate:
It's Snow Joke! All Tickets Just $6!
TONIGHT at 7:00 PM!
Men's Basketball vs. Green Bay TONIGHT at 7:00 PM All lower level tickets are just $6! FREE parking in the South Garage First 500 fans receive a FREE Cleveland State Bucket Hat Enjoy 216 Hoopy Hour from 6:00-7:00 PM featuring $2 Chicken Nachos & $1 Draft Beers

Are the restrictions at Calihan because of city rules on Covid that are tougher than in the adjoining counties? Or an institutional decision?

Are the restrictions at Calihan because of city rules on Covid that are tougher than in the adjoining counties? Or an institutional decision? I went to a Pistons game recently (at LCA, located in the same city of course), pretty much no difference from past pre-Covid years. No mask requirements (elevated or otherwise), no seating restrictions, full concessions, promotions in place to encourage attendance, all corridors open, etc.

IUPUI has a new promotion. They bring out 10 students from the student section at half time to shoot free throws. If a student goes 3/10 or better they then make the basketball team.

AND WHAT ARE WE DOING?? Everything possible to lessen the game time experience.. . Close the concessions and limit the Titan Club experience. A lot less work for Vowels. I hope the new President walks Vowels to the door and hits him in the ass with it as he leaves. But somehow I suspect Garibaldi has made an effort to protect his buddy.
