COLUMBUS, Ohio (2/5/2022) -- Junior Luke Majick posted a career-high three goals and the Titans had an early lead, but a big second-half run by Ohio State was the difference as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-7 decision at the Woody Hayes Center on Saturday afternoon. The game was the season opener for both schools.

The team got clobbered by Notre Dame last Saturday, 24-2. We're playing tough competition, to be sure, but don't seem to be as competitive as in recent years. Defense especially seems lacking, just going by the scores.

Titans lost to Bob Morris 12-5. Women lost to RMU 13-8, now 1-9 on the season. Nice turnout for the tailgate held between the men’s and women’s games, both played at Seaholm HS in Birmingham. (Commish, didn’t know where best to comment on women’s lacrosse. Perhaps you can rename the heading for this sub-section of the message board to encompass both Titan LAX teams.)

The Titans wrapped up the season two weeks ago with a 2-9 record, our third straight losing season and worst season since 2016. The Titans were 5th in the new 6-team Atlantic Sun at 1-5, beating only last place Cleveland State (by a 13-12 score). It was the first time we've missed our conference tournament or had a losing conference record since 2016. Utah won the inaugural ASun regular season, but second place Robert Morris copped the conference tournament win and NCAA bid.
When Robert Vowels took over as AD in May of 2013, Titan lacrosse seemed to be on the rise, the Titans having made the NCAA tournament in 2013 in just the school's 5th year of competition. The lacrosse team seemed to keep its head above water better than most teams during the Vowels era, finishing second in the MAAC in 2014, 2015, and 2018, and third in 2019, and missing the NCAA tournament in 2018 by a hair's breadth (an overtime loss in the conference tournament final). But now, like pretty much every other Titan team in the Vowels era, men's lacrosse is in the crapper.

In the current environment in this country, it is unfair to blame Vowels and his era for the seeming collapse of the school's athletic programs, like the country's fuel problems, the baby formula problems inflation etc, the blame is clear, Putin.
